Traits

Innate Spellcasting. The uulrender's spellcasting ability is Intelligence (spell save DC 16). The uulrender can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:

At will: darkness, sleep, alter self, dream

3/day each: hold person, hypnotic pattern

1/day each: fireball, fly

Magic Resistance. The uulrender has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Actions

Multiattack. The uulrender makes four attacks with either its hands, or with its dream bolt. Alternatively, it makes two attacks with its hands and casts one spell.

Hands. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (2d4 + 2) necrotic damage. Once per turn a target hit by this attack must make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw, on a failed save the creature falls asleep.

Dream Bolt. Ranged Spell Attack: +8 to hit, range 120 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (1d10+4) psychic damage.

Sleep Paralysis. The uulrender targets one sleeping creature, the creature must make a DC 16 Intelligence saving throw, on a failed save the creature wakes up but is paralyzed and takes 10 (2d8+2) psychic damage at the start of each of its turns. A creature may make the Intelligence saving throw again at the start of each of its turns, on a success the effect ends.

Reactions

Horror Story. As a reaction, whenever a creature falls asleep that the uulrender can see it may summon one living nightmare* within 5 feet of the sleeping creature, the summoned living nightmare has resistance to all damage from any creature other than the one it was summoned from. A creature may only be the victim of a single living nightmare, if it falls asleep while the summoned living nightmare is present, it may not be the target of Horror Story.

*The living nightmare is a creature of the DM's choice with a CR of 1/4 or less, this creature should be connected to the creature that it is summoned from.

Description

An evil creature of both the abyss and the plane of dreams, the uulrender feasts on the memories of regret, and nightmares of failure. The uulrender stands 12 feet tall, its skin made of obsidian. The fearsome demon uses its hundred spectral hands to inflict sleep on its prey, where it feasts on its quarry's terror and nightmare induced unrest.
