Traits

Obscured by the Elements. The Wendigo can hide if lightly obscured by mist, fog, or falling snow. The Wendigo has advantage on the roll if it is within 5 miles of its lair.

Mimicry. The Wendigo is able to mimic voices of it's previous victims, and is able to subtlety probe the minds of any target that enters its lair to lure the unwary to their doom. The Wendigo can target more than one creature at a time with this ability if the targets within the border of the Wendigo's lair. The target(s) that is effected by the Wendigo's mimicry has to successfully  make a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw to see through these mimicry effects. On a failed save the target(s) are lured towards the Wendigo at a rate of the target(s) max movement speed.

Wendigo's Frightful Presence. If the Wendigo successfully sneaks up to a target, or spends a legendary action, the target must roll a DC 17 Wisdom Saving Throw. If the target fails the save, the target is stunned with fear and cannot move or react until the end of the Wendigo's next turn. If the target saves it is immune to the effects for 24 hours.

Elongated Limbs. The Wendigo has limbs that are unnaturally long that can attack a target that is within 10ft of the Wendigo.

Surprise Attack. When the Wendigo successfully hits a target with a sneak attack the target takes an extra 11 (2D10) slashing or piercing damage from the attack.

Actions

Multi Attack. The Wendigo can make three melee weapon attacks, two Claw and one Bite attack.

Claw Attack. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft., 1 target. Hit: 18 (2d10+ 7) slashing damage. The target also takes 10 (3d6) necrotic damage.

Reactions

Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If the Wendigo fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.

Legendary Actions

The Wendigo can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The Wendigo regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Melee Attack. The Wendigo can attack a target within range of any of its melee attacks and attack again.

Wendigo's Frightful Presence. The Wendigo can attempt a Frightful Presence on a single target that it can see within a range of 60ft.

Hide in the Elements (Costs 2 Actions). The Wendigo can attempt to hide.

Description

"Once, long ago, it was on of us. Sitting among us, laughing, eating and drinking his fill....A few winters back we fell on hard times. His family was one of the ones that suffered the most. We did what we could, and shared what little there was available. No matter what we did though, his hunger couldn't be sated....His hunger consumed him, and then he consumed his family. And now he haunts and hunts in these woods cursed to hunger forever."

The Wendigo is a humanoid that in times of need, or desperation became cursed to hunger forever. It could've been hunger for food, or it could even come about due to their own personal greed. Man, woman, or child; it didn't matter who they were before. All that matters to them now is the eternal and unending hunger that twisted them into the beast they became.

A Wendigo is a monster that appears as a gender-less, emaciated figure that stands between 10' and 14' tall with grossly elongated limbs that give it an almost spider-like quality. It has arms that stretch down past its knees, and are tipped with inhumanly long talons that are more that a foot long. Its face shares some superficial characteristics to who the were before the curse took them. They're always emaciated, and they might have chunks of flesh torn from it's body by the Wendigo so it can consume itself if it can find no other prey.

Lair and Lair Actions

The Wendigo will find a spot; be it a bear den, troll hole, or something else of a similar nature, that it will retreat to in order to rest or feed. Everything within a 5 mile radius of this "den" is considered it's hunting grounds.

Lair Actions

On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the Wendigo takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects; the Wendigo can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row:

  • The weather changes for the worse, The fog and mist will grow thick, or any snow falling will turn into a blinding blizzard. The Wendigo has advantage on hiding this round, and all attacks against the Wendigo are at disadvantage.
  • The Air becomes chill with a biting cold. All fire based attacks do half damage.

Regional Effects

The region containing a Wendigo’s lair is corrupted by the Wendigo's Curse, which creates one or more of the following effects:

  • The Region is always colder than the rest of the surrounding habitat, and those who venture in can never seem to warm themselves enough. Fires are smaller and dimmer within the Wendigo's domain.
  • Wherever a Wendigo has taken up residence, the area will seem devoid of all life. The region will be silent and still with naught but the wind making a sound.
  • When the Wendigo is within its domain it cannot be ambushed due to the Wendigo having a general idea where every living creature within the stretches of it's domain. The Wendigo can still be hit by sneak attacks, but cannot be surprised.

If the Wendigo dies, these effects fade over the course of 1d20 days.
