Traits

Spiked Carapace. When the dragon takes damage from a creature that is within 10 feet of it, that creature must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw, taking 1d4 piercing damage on a failed save.

Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If the dragon fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.

Actions

Multiattack. The dragon can use its Frightful Presence. It then makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with its claws.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (2d10 + 6) piercing damage plus 4 (1d8) acid damage.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d6 + 6) slashing damage.

Tail. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d8 + 6) bludgeoning damage.

Frightful Presence. Each creature of the dragon's choice that is within 120 feet of the dragon and aware of it must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature's saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the dragon's Frightful Presence for the next 24 hours.

Spiked Barrage (Recharge 3-5). The dragon launches bone spikes in a 40-foot-radius sphere. Each creature in that line must make a DC 20 Dexterity saving throw, taking 42 (12d6) piercing damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Legendary Actions

The dragon can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The dragon regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Detect. The dragon makes a Wisdom (Perception) check.

Carapace Withdrawal. The dragon may withdraw its head and limbs into its dense  carapace, gaining a +5 bonus to AC. The dragon cannot make claw or bite attacks while withdrawn, and has a movement speed of 0.

Spiked Tail Attack. The dragon makes a tail attack. At the cost of 2 actions, the dragon make use the spike on the end of its tail to add 1d8 piercing damage to the attack. On a successful hit the dragon may then make a grapple check, if it succeeds the creature is impaled. Each turn the impaled creature must succeed on a DC 14 Constitution saving throw or take 1d6 piercing damage. The dragon cannot make further tail attacks while it is impaling a creature.

Description

An enormous draconian creature composed entirely of a living bone-like substance, rendering it densely armored both inside and out. It is wingless with a thick spiked turtle-like shell and a long spike-tipped tail. It lacks the wings of other wyrms, but has broad curved claws ideal for tunneling. Bone dragons do not need to breath and are extremely heavy, this lets them quite happily walk along the bottom of a body of water even without the actual ability to swim. Bone dragons tend to hide in underwater, or bury themselves in the earth, waiting silently in ambush for days at a time. These dragonoids appeared only after Tiamat's most recent death, and it is suggested among some scholars that they emerged from Her very bones. Bone Dragons are not inherently malicious, but rather are driven by simple hunger, however they do not hibernate for vast stretches like other wyrms.

Lair and Lair Actions

Born from the Corpse of Tiamat after the Tyranny of Dragons, Bone Dragons have no specific lair or terrain preferences.
