Amorphous. The sludge can move through a space as narrow as 1 inch wide without squeezing.
False Appearance. While the sludge remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from a tar-like, dark wet rock.
Opportunistic: The sludge gets a critical hit on 19 or 20 against prone targets.
Trip. The sludge moves up to its speed. While doing so, it can enter Medium or smaller creatures' spaces. Whenever the sludge enters a creature's space, the creature must make a DC 14 Dexterity saving throw. On a successful save, the creature can choose to be pushed 5 feet back or to the side of the sludge. A creature that chooses not to be pushed suffers the consequences of a failed saving throw.
On a failed save, the sludge enters the creature's space, and the creature takes 7 (2d6) slashing damage and falls prone. The prone creature must pass a Dexterity save (DC 14) to stand.
Description
Ash Sludges are usually found in volcanic areas. Though composed mostly of viscous black fluid that is both sticky and slippery, they also grow translucent scales that they use for moving and damaging prey.
These scales can be harvested for excellent arrow tips.
