Angelic Weapons. The despot's weapon attacks are magical. When the despot hits with any weapon, the weapon deals an extra 5d8 force damage (included in the attack).
Innate Spellcasting. The despot's spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 20). The despot can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:
At will: [Tooltip Not Found] , detect evil and good, invisibility (self only)
3/day each: animate dead, bestow curse, command, [contagion]
1/day each: control weather, insect plague
Magic Resistance. The despot has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Exceptional Mortal: Some despots are known to hide their true natures by using their change self ability to appear mortal, albeit as highly intelligent and capable ones who easily earn the trust and respect of others.
Multiattack. The despot makes two melee attacks.
Morningstar. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 21 (4d6 + 7) piercing damage plus 22 (5d8) force damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 18 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
Love and Despair. 4 times/day the despot can generate an aura that has one of two effects:
- Love:The despot’s already handsome features are suffused in a golden glow that exudes compassion and empathy. All non-celestials within 30 feet who can see the despot must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or be charmed for 1 minute. Charmed creatures can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of their turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the despot’s Love Aura for the next 24 hours.
- Despair: Crackling with power, the despot seems to swell in both size and menace. Any disguise they have assumed to appear less than celestial vanishes as their true nature is revealed. All non-celestials within 30 feet who can see the despot must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. Frightened creatures can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of their turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the despot’s Despair Aura for the next 24 hours.
Description
“Suddenly she shined bright as the sun and the villagers gasped as a pair of white, feathery wings unfolded from her back. The others stared in awe but as for me, I couldn’t help but notice that the warmth of her smile didn’t reach her eyes.” –Harken Frey, Vanir warrior
After eons of conflict and servitude, some celestials may begin to question the virtues of eternal servitude. Others may decide bringing order to the Material Plane requires a more direct touch. The light within them darkens as they use their powers to forge kingdoms among mortal kind, setting themselves up as god-kings who rule as they see fit. Virtually immortal and with few to challenge them, such despots may rule for millennia.
