Description
The warriors of the Zulu kingdom are professional soldiers that dominate the savannahs of South Africa. They serve their kings loyally and to the death, in attack they are fearless and relentless. As guards they can patrol a city, or fortified town, and are also used as the bodyguards of merchants and nobles. Their prime function however, is as a formation fighting force in a battle. The Zulu army was created by Shaka Zulu, in a military reform program which included athletics, new weapons, and battle formation tactics. Zulu warriors return to their home territory after a battle, and live in Kraal villages. Zulus believe in the power of their ancestor spirits, and the creator god uNkulunkulu.
Zulu soldiers are trained to march at a jogging pace across great distances, enabling a very fast and mobile army. The Zulus use a battle formation called "bull's horns" in which an enemy is attacked in the centre, and then on both flanks, and reserves can replace tired on or injured warriors on the front line. The Zulu kingdom successfully conquered surrounding tribes, and famously fought against the British Empire. Zulu nobles wear leopard skin capes. For defence, Zulu spearmen hold a large hide shield. They are armed with an iron tipped spear.
