Keen Hearing and Smell. The aisling has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell.
Otherworldy Origin. If the aisling starts in turn in sunlight, it is transported to the Dream Plane. While sunlight shines on the spot from which it vanished, the aisling must remain in the Dreamworld. After sunset, it may return to the Material Plane in an unoccupied space adjacent to its companion.
Telepathic Bond. While the aisling is on the same plane of existence as its companion, it can magically convey what it senses to its companion, and the two can communicate telepathically with each other.
Limited Flight. The aisling can only use its flying speed when it is no more than 5 feet above a surface, liquid or solid.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) piercing damage, plus 14 (4d6) psychic damage if the target is within 5 feet of its companion.
Guardian Howl. The aisling howls magically. Every ally within 300 feet of the aisling that can hear it receives immunity to the frightened condition. In addition, affected creatures are awoken from sleep and cannot be made to fall asleep, including by magical means. These effects last for 1 minute or until the aisling is incapacitated.
Description
The aisling, or dream hound as it is more commonly known, is a variant of the more common yeth hound. They are most commonly seen alongside powerful fey or their servants on the Feywild although sightings are also common in the Dream Plane. Unlike yeth hounds, which almost exclusively serve evil masters, aislings are favoured by more benevolent beings.
Protectors of Good. Unlike yeth hounds, which are subserviant to the fey who commands them, aislings see such beings as equals and expect to be treated as such in any arrangment. An aisling often comes to view the fey in question as a close friend and forms a deep, soulforged bond with them. This lucky individual, often referred to as a 'companion', possesses a telepathic link with the aisling and an aisling is never more fierce than when its companion is in peril. As a result, aislings often serve as guardians in the Feywild, protecting the halls and bedchambers of many a noble fey. A glint of green eyes is often all the warning a would be assassin gets before the jaws close around their neck.
Bound to the Dreamworld. The origin of the Aislings is uncertain. They are fey in the truest sense of the word and yet they exhibit a stronger connection to the Dreamworld than the Feywild. Some scholars claim that they were once ordinary fey who migrated to the Dreamworld and were subsequently changed by their stay there. Such academics point to the pixies, sprites and elves of the Material Plane as evidence of this possibility. Regardless, the respect which an aisling garners in even the loftiest court of the Feywild is perhaps testament to some noble ancestry. As a result of their connection to the Dreamworld, aislings can only manifest in the Material Plane when the two planes are in greatest proximity; when the sun has set and darkness prevails. Such a spectacle is exceedling rare however as few mortals have an aisling bestowed upon them. Rarer yet is the occasion of a mortal beast being raised to the level of an aisling - the existence of such miracles serves to further complicate the true origins of these noble creatures.
