Description

The grisly result of a wooden steak which has pierced the heart of a vampire and then left to rot . The deadly spike of wood may absorb the abhorrent blood of its Vampiric victim and take root. Within a mere matter of weeks, it will grow into a rather large and beautiful tree, using the body of the Vampire for nourishment. The trunk and branches of the Bloodspire Willow have no discernible bark, but possess a rough and hard exterior. The appearance of which is similar to intricately carved wood, boasting a deep red-brown hue.

Additionally, the trunk and limbs of this dark tree possess sharp and twisted angles, as if the only shape it knows how to expand on are the sharp spire of a wooden steak. The ends of the branches however droop in the distinctive fashion of many varieties of willow trees. The main distinctions being How this creature hunts.

It’s leaves are elongated and serrated like many willows, but are much thicker than normal leaves, During the day they resemble thin slices of flint. Dull in luster and pure black in color. However, when the light of the sun is no longer dulling their colors, the leaves of this tree become a translucent red and glow an unearthly red. They sparkle in their own light, resembling thousands of perfectly cut rubies.

Like a ruby, the edges of its leaves are sharp and keen. It lures in prey with it’s beautiful appearance and its sweet scent. From a distance the scent of the Bloodspine tree is hard to place, but many have described it as a smell which reminds them of other smells. Smells which make them feel safe such as fresh laundry or warm cookies. However, close to the tree the smell could be described as similar to the sickly sweet smell of overripe fruit.

When prey gets close enough, the tree will strike, it’s long, drooping branches lashing out like serrated whips. They ensnare prey, causing severe blood loss. The Bloodspine Willow’s roots absorb the blood of it’s prey like water as the prey’s carcass is drawn up into the tall branches of the tree. Hidden amongst it’s ruby gems, on the very top of the tree’s trunk, is a gaping mouth filled with row upon row of larger versions of the Ruby-like leaves covering it’s branches.

The tree lowers its prey into its mouth and begins to chew. From the outside there is no indication that the carcass of the prey is slowly being broken down into nutrients for this monstrous tree.
