Numbing Mucus. Any creature that touches a Bear-trap Worm must make a DC 12 constitution saving throw or be poisoned for 1 minute. While poisoned this way, the target loses its sense of touch, automatically failing all perception checks relying on this sense, as well as having the target's passive perception set to 0 for this sense. If the target is asleep, damage dealt to the target does not wake them. On a success, the target is not poisoned.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +0 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 1 piercing damage, and the Bear-trap Worm attaches to the target. While attached, the Bear-trap Worm doesn't attack. Instead, at the start of each of the Bear-trap Worm's turns, the target loses 1 hit points due to the Bear-trap Worm eating the target's flesh.
The Bear-trap Worm can detach itself by spending 5 feet of its movement. It does so after it drains 5 hit points of flesh from the target or the target dies. A creature, including the target, can use its action to detach the Bear-trap Worm.
Description
A small, red worm with a mouth full of sharp teeth, the Bear-trap Worm is a parasitic monster that bites chunks out of larger creatures. While able to survive off of rotten, dead flesh just fine, the Bear-trap Worm has a preference to feasting on still living meat.
These vile creatures fill the niche of Rot Grubs on Aebros, and pose little threat on their own, often seen to be a nuisance similar to a tick. Dangerous in swarms, they are entirely capable of killing a full-grown man when grouped, biting chunks out of the bodies like ravenous sharks.
One must take precautions while sleeping in the vast wilderness or dirty ghettos of Aebros, as the worms are just as likely to bite a sleeping target as they are any other. In these unfortunate cases, people have been reported to have been devoured entirely in their sleep, leaving only a blooded skeleton behind. Those fortunate enough to not have a swarm attack them are still unlucky enough to have chunks be taken out of them, and some even losing an eye. Those hardy enough to resist the numbing mucus of the Bear-trap Worm would naturally wake up due to the pain of, well, being eaten alive.
