Actions

Mind Control Spores (Recharge 5–6). The Araumycos' Node releases spores that burst out in a cloud that fills a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on a square it is touching, and it lingers for 1 minute. Humanoids and beasts in the cloud when it appears, or that enter it later, must make a DC 19 Wisdom saving throw. On a successful save, nothing happens. On a failed save, the creature is infected with a disease called the Corruption of Araumycos for 24 hours. While infected, the creature is charmed by her and can’t be reinfected by these spores.

Reactions

Protective Thrall. When Araumycos' Node is hit by an attack, one creature within 5 feet of Araumycos' Node that is charmed by her must use its reaction to be hit by the attack instead.

Legendary Actions

Break Concentration. The Araumycos' Node targets a creature within 120 feet of it with which it has a psychic link. The Araumycos' Node breaks the creature’s concentration on a spell it has cast. The creature also takes 1d4 psychic damage per level of the spell.

Psychic Pulse. The Araumycos' Node targets a creature within 120 feet of it with which it has a psychic link. Enemies of the Araumycos' Node within 10 feet of that creature take 10 (3d6) psychic damage.

Description

Araumycos is dwarvish for "Great Fungus". It is an enormous fungal growth that can engulf entire continents of the Underdark. Araumycos is technically not one single lifeform but actually a hive mind of billions of fungal growths. A node of Araumycos is a part of the growth that connects multiple branches of the the continental growth. Destroying a node can effectively kill of large sections of the fungal growth itself. The actual node itself is described as spongy, grey, and humid, similar to the outside of a brain. Araumycos' goal is simply to grow and consume regardless of the creatures it has to consume to do so. Not immune to magic but highly resistant. Araumycos also live in long cycles of of rest and growth sometimes lasting several centuries which leads to many civilizations forgetting the danger of the fungal caverns. It is rumored that Zuggtmoy has been searching for a path to the material in order to "marry" Araumycos. The term marry is misleading however as Zuggtmoy simply wishes to bond with and become one creature under Zuggtmoy's will. All goodly parties aware of this go to great lengths to stop this as a merger of the two could create an immensely powerful being. The node itself is almost unmoving and may take days to move a couple feet. This leads to some adventurers thinking it will be easy to destroy however they are mistaken as the creature is a very powerful psionic. When communicating Araumycos will refer to itself as "we" since it contains billions of tiny fungal entities.
