Traits

Flyby. The Ur-Sprite doesn't provoke opportunity attacks when it flies out of an enemy's reach.

Witch Sight. The Ur-Sprite cannot see normally, but can sense the exact location of living creatures, undead, and magical constructs within 30 feet of it, and the general area of such creatures within 60 feet. The Ur-Sprite has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks to spot such creatures attempting to use stealth within 30 feet, and immediately attempts this Wisdom (Perception) check without using an action when such a creature enters this range.

Susceptible Mind. The Ur-Sprite has Vulnerability to Psychic Damage and Disadvantage on .saving throws against Psionic magic.

Blind & Deaf. The Ur-Sprite does not use mortal senses to perceive the world around it, and is thus immune to the Blinded and Deafened conditions. Except in the following cases:

  • The Ur-Wraith becomes Blinded and Deafened automatically in an Anti-Magic Field.
  • If targeted by Dispel Magic, the Ur-Wraith must make a Constitution saving throw against the caster's spell save DC or become Blinded and Deafened for 1-minute.

Abberant Magic. Ur-Sprites make for popular familiars. Due to the incomprehensible nature of the Far Realm in which they make their home, Ur-Sprites are still able to use their Syphon and Eldritch Redirection attacks while bound as familiars, and can use their master's spell attack modifier. Furthermore, the Find Familiar spell cannot transform an existing Celestial, Fey, or Fiend familiar into an Ur-Sprite, however it can transform an Ur-Sprite familiar into one of the other standard familiar forms with the creature type Aberration and can transform such a familiar back into an Ur-Sprite.

Dark Slumber. When an Ur-Sprite takes a Short or Long Rest, it passively emits a magical darkness in a 1 foot radius around itself. The darkness takes about 10 minutes of Rest to obscure the Ur-Sprite completely, and dissipates 5 minutes after the Rest is ended.

Actions

Syphon. Melee Spell Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1 necrotic damage. The Ur-Sprite gains 1 temporary hit point.

Reactions

Eldritch Redirection. Ranged Spell Attack: Once, when a creature the Ur-Sprite can sense within 60 feet of it makes an attack against the Ur-Sprite or a creature within 5 feet of the Ur-Sprite, and misses, the Ur-Sprite can spend its reaction to immediately make a ranged spell attack at the attacking creature. +3 to hit, range 30/60 feet, one target. Hit: 1d4 force damage.

The Ur-Sprite regains the ability to use this feature after completing a short rest.

If the Ur-Sprite is acting as a familiar, it can use Eldritch Redirection a number of times equal to its master's Spellcasting Ability Modifier, (Minimum of 1) before requiring a short rest to recover them. If the Ur-Sprite's master knows any Eldritch Invocations that effect the Eldritch Blast cantrip, they effect the Ur-Sprite's Eldritch Redirection as well.

(In the case of the Eldritch Spear invocation, Eldritch Redirection can be triggered by an attacking creature within 300 feet which the Ur-Sprite's master can see or sense, and only suffers disadvantage on the attack beyond 60 feet, as the Ur-Sprite taps into the telepathic bond with its master to supplement its own senses)

Description

Ur-Sprites are the favorite familiars of astronomers, alienists, and warlocks due to their bizarre biology and innate magic. These aberrant fauna from beyond the stars appear similar to large, iridescent, black wasps, except that their six wings are feathered like those of a bird, their antenna writhe like the tentacles of an octopus atop a head that boasts no mandibles, and their wicked stinger is more designed to draw fluids out of the victim, rather than inject toxins into them. It is through this abdomen that they they feed.

Ur-Sprites have an average wingspan of about 1.5 feet, and typically measure around 16 inches in length. Their size is Tiny.
