Traits

Multifaceted. The Ankheg is immune to being flanked or surprised.

Caustic Blood. The first time the Ankheg is hit by a melee attack in a round, it sprays acid from its wounds, causing all creatures within 5ft to make a Dexterity saving throw, DC 17. On a failure, a creature takes 7 (2d6) acid damage.

Tender Belly. If the Ankheg has previously swallowed a creature, it's distended abdomen becomes prominent. The abdomen has an AC of 18 and 40 hit points (damage threshold 10).  If the abdomen is destroyed, the Pressurized Carapce. reaction is triggered and the swallowed creature is thrown prone, directly below the Ankheg.

Simple Mind.  The Ankheg has advantage on saving throws against the stunned condition.

Actions

Multiattack. The Ankheg makes two claw attacks, followed by one bite or swallow attack and one Flurry of Legs attack.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d6 + 6) slashing damage. If the target is Large or smaller, it must succeed on a Strength saving throw, DC 17, or be pulled 5ft toward the Ankheg.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 20 (4d6 + 6) piercing damage. If the target is a Medium or smaller creature, it is restrained (escape DC 17). Until this grapple ends, the ankheg can bite only the grappled creature and has advantage on attack rolls to do so.

Swallow. If the Ankheg has a creature retrained by it's bite attack it can attempt to swallow the creature whole.  The targeted creature must succeed on a contested grapple check, or be swallowed.  The swallowed target is blinded and restrained, it has total cover against attacks and other effects outside the Ankheg, and it takes 10 (3d6) acid damage at the start of each of the Ankheg's turns. The Ankheg can have only one target swallowed at a time. If the Ankheg dies, a swallowed creature is no longer restrained by it and can escape from the corpse using 5 feet of movement, exiting prone.

Flurry of Legs. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 10 ft., one creature. Hit: 27 (6d6 + 6) piercing damage plus 14 (4d6) acid damage.

Acid Spray (Recharge 6). The Ankheg spits acid in a 30 ft. cone, provided that it has no creature grappled. Each creature in that line must make a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw, taking 35 (8d6) acid damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Reactions

Acid Glob. When a creature leaves the Ankhegs reach, it can spit a glob of acid at them, sticking them in place.  This reaction can be performed against movement that would not normally provoke opportunity attacks. The affected creature must make a Constitution saving throw (DC 15), or take 10 (3d6) acid damage, and have their movement speed reduced to 0 until the end of their next turn.

Pressurized Carapace. Upon being reduced to 0 hit points, the Ankheg explodes, forcing all creatures within 20ft to make a Dexterity saving throw, DC 16. On a failure, a creature takes 3 (1d6) bludgeoning damage, as well as 18 (5d6) acid damage.

Legendary Actions

Villian Actions. To be taken after the end of another creature's turn, once per round, in order.

Burrow. The Ankheg immediately burrows 20ft.

Pull. The Ankheg makes a Bite attack on a creature that it is underneath. This attack is made at advantage. If it hits, it pulls the creature underground, grappling it in its jaws where it isrestrained.

Acid Expulsion. The Ankheg pushes acid through all of its wounds, causing all creatures within 30ft to make a Dexterity saving throw, DC 15. On a failure, a creature takes 22 (6d6) acid damage, and its speed is reduced to 0 until the end of the Ankhegs next turn.
