Traits

Detect Life. The banshee can magically sense the presence of creatures up to 5 miles away that aren’t undead or constructs. They knows the general direction they’re in but not their exact locations.

Incorporeal Movement. The banshee can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. They take 5 (1d10) force damage if they ends their turn inside an object.

Actions

Corrupting Touch. Melee Spell Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (3d6 + 2) necrotic damage.

Horrifying Visage. Each non-undead creature within 60 feet of the banshee that can see the banshee must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute. A frightened target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, with disadvantage if the banshee is within line of sight, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a target’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the target is immune to the banshee’s Horrifying Visage for the next 24 hours.

Wail (1/Day). The banshee releases a mournful wail, provided that they aren't in sunlight. This wail has no effect on constructs and undead. All other creatures within 30 feet of the banshee that can hear their wails must make a DC 13 Constitution saving throw. On a failure, a creature drops to 0 hit points. On a success, a creature takes 10 (3d6) psychic damage.

Herald of Death (1/Day). The banshee releases a series of bloodcurdling screams and cries to warn the living of a tragic event about to take place. This wail has no harmful effects, but undead creatures that hear it must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened until 1 minute after the wailing stops.

Description

The woeful banshee is the manifestation of a spirit who died of unbearable heartbreak, cursing them to grieve for enternity. Their face is wreathed in a wild tangle of hair, their body clad in wispy rags that flutter and stream around it. A creature of any race or gender may become a banshee so long as they are capable of experiencing extreme loss. Banshees are known as heralds of death and tragedies to come.

Banshees are in an eternal state of grieving, and so a banshee's behavior may be influenced by a combination of pain, guilt, sorrow, and anger. Banshees may hold vendettas against those who remind them of the cause of their suffering, regardless of whether this person is guilty of anything or not. For example, a banshee whose child died during a difficult birth may place unfair blame on tieflings or demon or devil-like entities. Or a banshee whose partner was unfaithful to them in life may take revenge on cheaters and adulterers in death.

In rare cases, a village or family may earn the sympathy of a banshee, who would warn them of tragedy by releasing bloodcurdling cries from outside one's bedroom window or from the middle of town square. Banshees are also said to gather in large numbers before the death of a great leader or holy person.

Banshees wander areas that experienced bloodshed or tragedy, such as a battlefield or a fast moving river. These areas often have something to do with the banshee's own death or the reason why they're grieving.
