Keen Smell. The bearbug has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.
Surprise Attack. If the bearbug surprises a creature and hit it with an attack on its first turn in combat, the attack deals an extra 2d6 damage to it. The bearbug can use this trait only once per combat.
Multiattack. The bearbug makes three attacks: one with its mandibles, one with its claws, and one with its sting.
Mandibles. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (2d4 + 5) piercing damage.
Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d6 + 5) slashing damage.
Sting. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 12 (2d6 + 5) piercing damage. The target must make a DC 13 Constitution saving throw, taking 10 (3d6) poison damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. If the poison damage reduces the target to 0 hit points, the target is stable but poisoned for 1 hour, even after regaining hit points, and is paralyzed while poisoned in this way.
Description
A bearbug is a horrifying hybrid between bug and bear. Its body is that of a bear but it has wasplike wings growing out of its back, a stinger in place of a tail, and the head and mandibles of a hideous insect. It is rumored the first bearbugs were polymorphed bugbears experimented on by a lich with a sick sense of humor.
Bearbugs are carnivorous and their favorite food is the flesh of goblinoids. They prefer to ambush their prey, often hiding in the leaves of a tree and jumping down when ready to attack.
