Actions

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., up to 4 targets. Hit: 9 (1d10+ 3) [damage type] damage. 

Tail. Ranged Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, range 20/40 ft., 1 target. Hit: 24 (5d10 + 4) bludgeoning damage.

Wave. Water Attack: +6 to hit, range 20 ft., up to 10 tergets. Hit: 20-x ft. from the Abnaustrus (3d10) bludgeoning damage. The Abnaustrus slams its tail into the water near the target(s), creating a 20 foot wave. The wave does 20 damage starting at ground zero, decreasing by 1 for each foot traveled to reach the target.

Legendary Actions

Legendary actions can only be taken in the Abnaustrus's lair as its powers come from the energy stored in the many crystals located inside the giant underwater cave. While in its lair, the Abnaustrus can make up to 6 legendary actions per day.

Teleport (Costs 1 Actions). The Abnaustrus teleports up to 30 feet away in any direction that is not currently occupied. This action can be used up to 3 times per day. 

Displace (Costs 2 actions). The Abnaustrus teleports to a spot occupied by another being. That being takes the spot that the Abnaustrus previously occupied and is confused for 30 seconds.

Description

The Abnaustrus is an eel-like creature with cream white eyes that don't have pupils. It's grey in color, with a a long, pointy snout and a defined jaw filled with rows and rows of small sharp teeth. Small but stocky fins protrude from its body along its belly. It prefers freshwater lakes and estuaries, but can also live in salt water. Despite its size, the Abnaustrus lives in shallow waters and feeds on smaller fish and other small sea creatures. It is very territorial and does not take kindly to intruders. When in or near its lair, it's often hostile towards others. While it is primarily a water creature, the Abnaustrus can venture on land using its fins as legs to push it around, similar to the style of a centipede. 

Lair and Lair Actions

An Abnaustrus's lair is a large crater filled with crystals collected from the surrounding waters. Few who enter ever make it out alive as the Abnaustrus is very territorial and doesn't take kindly to visitors. 

Lair Actions

On initiative count 13 (losing initiative ties), the Abnaustrus takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects; the Abnaustrus can’t use the same effect 3 rounds in a row:

  • A flash of blinding white light emanates from the crystals inside the lair. This causes any being within a 30 foot radius of the lair to be blinded for 30 seconds.
  • The crystals turn black and a blackout occurs inside the lair. Upon this affect being lifted, each being effected is temporarily blinded for 15 seconds.

If the Abnaustrus dies, these effects fade over the course of 2d4 days.
