Traits

Legendary Resistance (3/Day).  If the wyvern fails a saving throw it can choose to succeed instead.

Innate Spellcasting. The wyvern can innately cast the following spells without spell components, none of these spells can be cast over 8th level:

At will: Fog Cloud, Suggestion, False Life, Catnap, Magic Missle

2/Day: Bones of the Earth, Control Winds, Arms of Hadar, Whirlwind

Actions

Multiattack. The wyvern makes two attacks: one with its bite and one with its stinger. While flying, it can use its claws in place of one other attack.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 10 ft., one creature. Hit: 13 (4d6 + 4) piercing damage.  If the target is a medium or smaller creature, it is grappled (escape DC 12). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained, and the wyvern can't bite another target

Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 19 (3d8 + 4) slashing damage.

Stinger (Recharge 3-4). Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 10 ft., one creature. Hit: 14 (2d10 + 5) piercing damage. The target must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw, taking 28 (7d6) poison damage, become paralyzed for 3 minutes, and become poisoned for 6 hours on a failed save, or half as much damage and no poisoning or paralyzation on a successful one.

Fire Breath (Recharge 3-4). Ranged Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, range 40 ft., one target. Hit: 27 (5d8 + 3) fire damage.

Channel Wind. The wyvern takes flight and launches a massive gust of wind in a 20ft cone in front of itself, any creature caught in the cone must make a successful DC 15 Dexterity or Strength check or be pushed backwards 8ft, and take 19 (3d8 + 5) force damage.

Frightful Presence. Each creature of the wyvern's choice that is within 120 feet of the wyvern and aware of it must succeed on a DC 21 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature's saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the wyvern's Frightful Presence for the next 24 hours.

Legendary Actions

The Ancient Wyvern can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The wyvern regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Supreme Multiattack. The Ancient Wyvern makes 3 claw attacks and one bite attack.

Spellcaster. The Ancient Wyvern casts one of its at will spells.

Breath Weapon. The wyvern recharges its Fire Breath action and uses it.

Potent Sting. The wyvern recharges and uses its Stinger ability but adds an extra 5d6 poison damage to the damage of the attack.

Description

Cousins to the great dragons, wyverns have two scaly legs, leathery wings, and a sinewy tail topped with a poison stinger that can kill a creature in seconds.  Ancient Wyverns have unlocked the ability to use their breath weapons, gain supreme intelligence, and have a much more venomous sting.  As wyverns approach the rare ancient status their scales begin to assume one of the following colors: Blue, red, yellow, black, grey, brown, or very rarely, purple.  Some Ancient Wyverns grow horns as well.
