Traits

Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If the elder brain fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.

Immutable Form. The Antapétroi is immune to any spell or effect that would alter its form.

False Appearance. While the Antapétroi remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from a normal statue

Magic Resistance. The Antapétroi has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Magic Weapons. The Antapétroi weapon attacks are magical, attacks made with weapons wielded by the Antapétroi deal an additional 6d8 damage to its target, of a type the weapon would cause.

Actions

Multiattack. The Antapétroi makes three attacks with its Xyston.

Xyston. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 30 ft., one target. Hit:  56 (6d6 + 6d8 + 8) piercing damage.

Overrun (Recharge 5 or 6). The Antapétroi charges forward, an attempt to crush those in front of it. During its move, it can enter Large or smaller creatures’ spaces. A creature whose space the hellfire engine enters must make a DC 19 Dexterity saving throw. On a successful save, the creature is pushed 5 feet to the nearest space out of the Antapétroi's path. On a Antapétroi, the creature falls prone and takes 14 (4d6) bludgeoning damage. If the Antapétroi remains in the prone creature’s space, the creature is also restrained until it’s no longer in the same space as the Antapétroi. While restrained in this way, the creature, or another creature within 5 feet of it, can make a DC 19 Strength check. On a success, the creature is shunted to an unoccupied space of its choice within 5 feet of the Antapétroi and is no longer restrained. The Antapétroi may make a single Xyston attack against a single creature within 10 feet of it.

Bonemelt Spray (Recharge 5 or 6). The Antapétroi spews acidic spray in a 60-foot cone. Each creature in the cone must make a DC 19 Dexterity saving throw, 27 (6d8) acid damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. Creatures that fail the saving throw are drenched in burning acid and take 14 (2d8) acid damage at the end of their turns. An affected creature or another creature within 5 feet of it can take an action to scrape off the burning fuel.

Frightful Presence. Each creature of the Antapétroi's choice that is within 120 feet of the Antapétroi and aware of it must succeed on a DC 19 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the Antapétroi's Frightful Presence for the next 24 hours.

Reactions

Armor Lock. The Antapétroi locks itself down to brace against an attack. It adds 2 to its armor class for the rest of the turn. The Antapétroi has its movement reduced by half during its next turn.

Legendary Actions

The Antapétroi can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time, and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The Antapétroi regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Stomp. The Antapétroi stomps the ground, causing a small earthquake. Creatures within 30 feet of the Antapétroi must make a DC 19 strength check, taking 7 (2d6)  thunder damage and falling prone on a failed save, or taking half as much damage on a successful save.

Poison Spray (Costs 2 Actions). The Antapétroi spews poison from its mouth and nostrils which billows out in a 60 foot cone. Creatures within the cone must make a Constitution save (DC 19), taking 21 (6d6) poison damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one.

Xyston (Recharge 5 or 6). The Antapétroi makes an attack with its Xyston.

Description

Mysterious constructs that dot the ruins and underused roadways of the Aeillan region. These creatures, known as Antapétroi, take the form of statues of beautiful men and women in archaic but ornate armor, of numerous sizes. They are often inanimate, but occasionally awaken for unknown purposes. It is unknown the origins of the Antapétroi, or their reason for being whether they are protective beings or destroyers, or both.
