Shapechanger. If the Blightshifter isn’t in sunlight, it can use its action to polymorph into any humanoid or beast that it has killed with its Suffocate Essence action, or back into its true form. Its statistics, other than its size and speed, are the same in each form. If the Blightshifter is reduced to 0 hit points in any form other than its true form, it reverts back to its true form. If it is reduced to 0 hit points in its true form, it dies.
If the Blightshifter is reduced to 0 hit points in any form other than its true form, it can use its reaction to polymorph into one of its remaining forms and regain 50 hit points. After which, it is no longer able to transform into the previous form.
Sunlight Sensitivity. While in sunlight, the Blightshifter has disadvantage on attack rolls, as well as on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.
Shadow Stealth. While in dim light or darkness, the Blightshifter can take the Hide action as a bonus action.
Multiattack. The blightshifter makes two attacks: one with its slam and one with its claw.
Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 14 (2d8 + 5) bludgeoning damage plus 7 (2d6) necrotic damage.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one Medium or smaller creature. Hit: 12 (2d6 + 5) slashing damage plus 7 (2d6) necrotic damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 16). While grappled in this way, the target is restrained.
Suffocate Essence. The Blightshifter projects a sickening smoke trail into the lungs of one humanoid or beast within 10 ft. of it that is grappled by the Blightshifter, incapacitated, or restrained. The creature must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution saving throw, taking 36 (8d8) necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. If this damage reduces the creature to 0 hit points, it dies, reducing the creature to a gaunt, white husk. The Blightshifter then polymorphs into the dead creature.
