Petrifying Gaze (Recharges 4-6). If a creature starts its turn within 30 feet of the Ankylisk and the two of them can see each other, the Ankylisk can force the creature to make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw if the Ankylisk isn't incapacitated. On a failed save, the creature magically begins to turn to stone and is restrained. It must repeat the saving throw at the end of its next turn. On a success, the effect ends. On a failure, the creature is petrified until freed by the greater restoration spell or other magic.
A creature that isn't surprised can avert its eyes to avoid the saving throw at the start of its turn. If it does so, it can't see the Ankylisk until the start of its next turn, when it can avert its eyes again.
If it looks at the Ankylisk in the meantime, it must immediately make the save. If the Ankylisk sees its reflection within 30 feet of it in bright light, it may mistake itself for a rival and target itself with its gaze.
Challenging Screech. If the Ankylisk feels there is a creature challenging it's dominance it will slam it's tail, and let out an ear-piercing screech, baring it's fangs and tusks. The target creature must make a DC 14 wisdom saving throw or become Frightened.
Charge. If the Ankylisk moves at least 20 feet straight towards a target and then hits it with a GORE on the same turn, the target takes an extra 7 (3d4) damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d6 + 4) piercing damage plus 5 (2d4) poison damage.
Gore. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5-10ft., two adjacent targets. Hit: 18 (3d8 + 4) Slashing damage.
Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d8 +4) Bludgeoning damage.
Hunting Instinct. If a creature in the Ankylisk's sight begins to flee from battle it may use it's reaction to expend it's movement towards that creature. Gaining advantage on the attack should it catch up to the creature.
Description
An Ankylisk is a hexapedal, reptilian horror. The result of possible forced breeding of Basilisks and Ankylosaurs this monstrosity boasts the deadliest attributes of both, and oddly enough some of it's own unique traits. This opportunistic predator is completely omnivorous, not discriminating what it eats when hungry, and like it's Basilisk ancestors it will eat stone too. Having adapted to travel in familial units dominated by the most powerful member; Ankylisks developed a unique form of communication via a sort of echolocation. Performed by slamming their tail on the surface near them and letting out a subsonic noise to gain a tremmorsense like ability; Ankylisks have developed a crude form of communication similar to Morris code. The rigid armoring on it's topside is impervious to most natural damage and it's thick skin seems to ignore damage over a surface area, but seems to be Ineffective at protecting the creature from piercing attacks. Aside from this not to much more is known of Ankylisks, for not many live to retell what they observed, so be on guard should you have the fortune to hear it before you see it.
