Aura of Invulnerability. An invisible aura forms a 5-foot-radius sphere around the sinister for as long as it lives. Any spell of 5th level or lower cast from outside the barrier can't affect creatures or objects within it, even if the spell is cast using a higher level spell slot. Such a spell can target creatures and objects within the barrier, but the spell has no effect on them. Similarly, the area within the barrier is excluded from the areas affected by such spells. The sinister can use an action to suppress this trait until its concentration ends (as if concentrating on a spell).
Innate Spellcasting. The sinister's innate spellcasting ability is Intelligence (spell save DC 13). It can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components.
At will: levitate
5/day each: hold monster
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 16 (3d8+ 4) piercing damage,
Description
Sinisters are a race of intelligent manta-ray like creatures that are part of a group of creatures from the Underdark know as deep bats, composed also by the azymths, bonebats, dragazhars and werebats. Sinisters were jet-black or midnight blue in color and had 9‑foot (2.7‑meter) wingspans. They had no discernible necks, nor did they have visible fingerbones, as did true bats.
Hovering Hunters. Sinisters hunted down animals (humanoids were rarely target), chasing them and releasing the hold monster spell whenever they get close enough to their prey. They are known for their powerful jaws, able to strike down a weak adventurer in a bite, and snapping a whole small creature. They are always silent, only communicating with theimselves trought telepathy. Most times unnoticeable, they cross sky like a living shadow. This granted them the characteristic name of "sinisters". Not only that, but sinisters do also have a natural aura of invulnerability, which brings trouble to spellcasters trying to get rid of a sinister.
Silent Audience. Despite their name, sinisters were not, in fact, evil creatures. They tended to be orderly beings and most were more intelligent than the typical humanoid. Sinisters loved music, and many bards and harpers had found themselves surrounded by a circle of silent, hovering sinisters when playing music over campfires at night when in the wilderness. The sinisters were harmless; they simply loved to listen to instruments and singing. That's why the collective of sinisters is many times written as "audience" or "band". Because of their love for music, sinisters would went to any place above the Underdark where they could find a musician playing.
