Righteous Weapons. The asura's weapon attacks are magical. When the asura hits with any weapon, the weapon deals an extra 1d6 fire damage (included in the attack).
Special Equipment. The asura has a mithral breastplate +1, two scimitars +1, and a longbow +1
Innate Spellcasting. The asura's spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 15). The asura can innately cast the following spells, requiring only verbal components:
At will: detect evil and good, zone of truth, true seeing
1/day each: magic circle (self only), blinding smite
Magic Resistance. The asura has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Avoidance. If the asura is subjected to an effect that allows it to make a saving throw to take only half damage, it instead takes no damage if it succeeds on the saving throw, and only half damage if it fails.
Superior Critical. Weapon attacks that the asura makes score critical hits on rolls of 18–20.
Alert. The asura has the following benefits:
- The asura gains a +5 bonus to initiative.
- The asura can't be surprised while you are conscious.
- Other creatures don’t gain advantage on attack rolls against the asura as a result of being unseen by the asura.
Multiattack. The asura can use it's Burning Wind. The asura then makes two melee attacks or three ranged attacks.
Scimitar. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d6 + 6) slashing damage plus 3 (1d6) fire damage.
Longbow. Ranged Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, range 150/600 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (1d8 + 6) piercing damage plus 3 (1d6) fire damage.
Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d8 + 3) slashing damage.
Burning Wind. As an action, the asura can beat its wings to generate a searing wave of heat that deals 7 (2d6) points of damage to all creatures within a 15-foot cone.
Change Shape. The asura magically polymorphs into a humanoid that has a challenge rating equal to or less than its own, or back into its true form. It reverts to its true form if it dies. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying is absorbed or borne by the new form (the asura's choice).
In a new form, the asura retains its game statistics and ability to speak, but its AC, movement modes, Strength, Dexterity, and special senses are replaced by those of the new form, and it gains any statistics and capabilities (except class features, legendary actions, and lair actions) that the new form has but that it lacks.
Description
An asura resembled a human with marble-pale skin and huge red wings, which were made of flame. Their feet were armed with eagle claws and they wore loose togas.
A noble warrior, the asura (ah-SOO-rah) is found throughout the Upper Planes, serving deities as messengers and heralds with righteous zealotry. Sometimes one or more asuras are sent on missions to other planes, carrying messages of revenge, punishment, and death to those who have challenged or angered one of the powers. Other celestial beings find them impertinent and needlessly violent; however, most asuras take great pride in their ability to intimidate and “correct” evildoers. Asuras distrust angels (especially lawful ones) and see them as rivals for the attention of the good deities. Due to the nature of both types of beings, neither resorts to any sort of violence, double-dealing, or underhanded measures, although the mutual feelings of contempt are obvious. An asura stands about 6 1/2 feet tall and weighs 180 pounds. Asuras speak Celestial, but also tended to learn common for when they interacted or aided humans and demihumans on the material plane or advised them on how to live an ideal life..
Asuras preferred to attack their opponents from the air, causing terrible wounds by claws and hand-held weapons. Being one of the wisest creatures in the outer planes, they were immune to many forms of enchantment and were completely protected from illusions. Thanks to their marvelous vision, an asura could easily recognize lies and punish the guilty. Asuras could also transform into a human or demihuman to go unnoticed. In this case, their abilities were retained.
In their native planes, asuras were managed by experienced commanders who they unconditionally obeyed. But, at any time, any of the asuras could easily switch allegiance to another commander as their service was always free. There were also wandering free asuras, helping people around the world and showing by example how to live.
As beings living in the outer planes, asuras did not directly influence the ecology of Zakhara, also known as the land of fate, despite being known to be found there from time to time.
All asuras together, calling themselves the Grand Celestial Host, recognized a supreme general called Absalom as their leader.
Asuras did not require food to sustain themselves. Instead they drew sustenance from the Positive Energy plane or from the good nature of those around them, being careful not to do so beyond what is needed or that would harm that individual.
Asuras were known to act as servants of the deities Eilistraee, Haela Brightaxe, Thard Harr, Aerdrie Faenya, Corellon, Deep Sashelas, Erevan Ilesere, Hanali Celanil, Labelas Enoreth, Rillifane Rallathil, Sehanine Moonbow, Shevarash, Solonor Thelandira, Cyrrollalee, and Yondalla.
