Description

The Waycall Drifter search for the people in the lowest of positions, then leading them to the demiplane of Drunebar Manor.

Searching for the Broken. The Waycall Drifters are small filigree songbirds made by the Drunebar family to find people in lowest of positions. They guide the poor, sick, and grieving people to the Drunebar Manor a demiplane made to serve them. The drifters can often be found in cemeteries,  on the roofs of orphanages and prisons, and soaring over poor neighborhoods and slave rich villas and mansions, singing songs and watching for their targets.

Soulfire Power. The drifter´s power comes from a core made from the soul of a murderer. This soul has been wiped of memories and emotions to be the perfect searchers. They are crafted from the souls of murderers because of the power they poses for finding weak targets. These powers sometimes attract the attention of demons because of the imprint of their souls and the faint residue of their past actions. This presents some problems as this can release memories and personalities of their past selves. This often ends badly transforming them into constructs of murderous rage.

Demonic Transformation. If a Waycall Drifter´s memories or personalities return, they become corrupted and rageful. This transmutes their pure white, glowing cores into black and scarlet, seething orbs of hated and pain. The new core pushes the construct to continue its dark deeds. Often breaking out and becoming a willowisp or inhabiting a new body and destroying everything in its path.

Terrible past. The Waycall Drifters were created by a family known as the Drunebars. They were cursed to be unable to reside anywhere but a demiplane accessible only by them. Any property bought by the Drunebars was immediately engulfed by the demiplane, not caring for anything or anyone already present. Though the curse was terrible there was also a useful advantage. The Drunebars where immune to diseases and where prone to good fortune. Their good fortune brought them riches beyond imagining. The family was extremely generous, helping the poor and sick, inviting them into their home to rest.  Though the conditions  were perfect, a problem arose as the family grew in age and size. As generation after generation of Drunebars inhabited the house it became to small for all of them so they needed another. The demiplane though did not have enough room for more than the original house and a small garden in front. Learning of this dilemma, the Drunebars searched all the books they could find, searching for a way to break the curse or expand the demiplane. Finally they found the answer, they had to kill a killer. At first, the family did not want to bloody their families perfect history, fearing retribution by the people they served. They could no longer ignore the fact that this was the only way to expand the demiplane was to kill, as a plague spread around the countryside and people were in more need than any time before. Knowing the risks if anybody found out, the Drunebars found a murderer, striking in the dead of night and laying them in the local cemetery. They took their soul and let it fly around the demiplane, expanding it by another housworth of space. Out of the remainder of the soul they built the first Waycalls as scouts, looking for the people in the direst of needs. but again as time went on they became more and more famous, their family became bigger and bigger and they had to expand again, so they did so. They continued to do so for hundreds of years up until the point when people started noticing that the human family of Drunebars had out lived any elf by 500 years and expanded to almost an entire village. It was also noticed that the cemetery was filled with bodies that the grave diggers, nor anyone else for that matter, knew existed. One day at a town meeting, local villagers finally connected the dots and came to learn the truth, and decided to end the Drunebar families long and fruitful family. Oblivious to the coming danger, the Drunebars were totally unprepared for the flood of angered villagers who stormed the demiplane and burning the houses to the ground, all with the help of a dejected orphan and a flitting Waycall. Eventually. after every member of the drunebar household had been slaughtered and the demiplane with its horrible, bloody past had been forgotten, the Waycalls began fluttering and soaring over tows and villages again, leading the broken back to the ashen plot of land, disconnected from the rest of the world. The final reminder of a past best left forgotten
