Traits

False Appearance. While the Am-Bush remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from an ordinary hedge, bush or shrubbery.

Grappler. The Am-Bush has advantage on attack rolls against any creature grappled by it.

Flammable. Being a plant based creature that tends to hunt versus getting nutrients from its roots, its body is often dry and highly flammable. When the Am-Bush takes damage from fire, it is set ablaze. The Am-Bush and anything it is grappled with takes 1d6 fire damage each turn the Am-Bush is ablaze. While ablaze targets hit by Constrict have Advantage on attempts to break free.

Actions

Constrict. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) bludgeoning damage. If a Large or smaller target is hit, they are grappled (escape DC 15).  Until grapple ends, the target is restrained, and the Am-Bush can't constrict another target.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) piercing damage plus 4 (1d8) acid damage.

Description

The Am-Bush is a patient hunter. Lying in wait while taking the form of a hedge or bush. Once it's prey gets to close it will immediately lash out with its long roots to constrict the target. Once within its grasp, the Am-Bush will drag them in to feed on the helpless prey. Its bush-like cover splits open to reveal a massive carnivorous maw. While typically found in wooded areas alone, there have been noted occurrences of Am-Bushes settling in a colony for both safety and to hunt larger prey.
