Antimagic Susceptibility. The tome is incapacitated while in the area of an antimagic field. If targeted by dispel magic, the tome must succeed on a Constitution saving throw against the caster's spell save DC or fall unconscious for 1 minute.
False Appearance. While the tome remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from a normal book. A successful DC 14 Intelligence (Arcana) check reveals the tome to be a strange kind of magical wizardly spellbook, but it does not reveal that the tome is animated.
Magic Resistance. The tome has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Regeneration. The tome regains 10 hit points at the start of its turn. If the tome takes fire damage, this trait doesn't function at the start of the tome's next turn.
Spellcasting. The tome is a 6th-level spellcaster. Its spellcasting ability is Wisdom (spell save DC 11, +3 to hit with spell attacks). It knows the following wizard spells and can cast them without requiring verbal or material components:
Cantrips (at-will): acid splash, mage hand, minor illusion, ray of frost
1st level (4 slots): magic missile, shield
2nd level (3 slots): scorching ray, suggestion
3rd level (3 slots): counterspell, lightning bolt
Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 3 (1d4 + 1) bludgeoning damage.
Riffle Pages. The tome flips rapidly through its pages and casts two spells, each with a casting time of 1 action or 1 bonus action: either one cantrip and one spell of 1st-level or higher, or two cantrips.
Description
Though most attempts at animating a magical spellbook fail, those who know the proper procedure can animate a spellbook made with secretive, rare materials. The result is a magician tome: a floating spellbook that can cast some of the lesser spells from within its own pages.
Constructed Nature. An animated object doesn't require air, food, drink, or sleep.
An animated object reduced to 0 hit points loses its animating magic. It becomes inanimate, and it is too damaged to be of much use or value to anyone.
