Extradimensional Container. This animate bag has an interior space considerably larger than its outside dimensions, roughly 2 feet in diameter at the mouth and 4 feet deep. The bag can hold up to 500 pounds, not exceeding a volume of 64 cubic feet. The bag weighs 15 pounds, regardless of its contents. Retrieving an item from the bag requires an action.
If the bag is reduced to 0 hit points, it ruptures and is destroyed, and its contents are scattered in the Astral Plane. Breathing creatures inside the bag can survive up to a number of minutes equal to 10 divided by the number of creatures (minimum 1 minute), after which time they begin to suffocate.
Placing an awakened bag of holding inside an extradimensional space created by a handy haversack, portable hole, or similar item instantly destroys both items and opens a gate to the Astral Plane. The gate originates where the one item was placed inside the other. Any creature within 10 feet of the gate is sucked through it to a random location on the Astral Plane. The gate then closes. The gate is one-way only and can’t be reopened. An awakened bag of holding instinctively understands this and will refuse to interact with another extradimensional space to avoid destroying itself, losing the items in its care, and potentially endangering its master.
Strap Whip. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 1d4 + 2 slashing damage.
Collect/Bestow. The bag either takes one unsecured object from a willing creature within 5 feet of it or dispenses one of the items held within it to a willing creature within 5 feet of it. This action can also be done as a reaction, so long as the item is small enough to be used with one hand.
Eject Item (Recharge 6). The bag forcefully expels one item from within itself at a target within 60 feet of it. The object must weigh 1 to 5 pounds. The object flies in a straight line towards its target, which must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC 12). On a failed save, the object strikes the target and stops moving. On a successful save, the object continues in straight line up to a total of 90 feet from the bag before falling to the ground. When the object strikes something, the object and what it strikes each take 2d6 bludgeoning damage.
Description
The Bag of Holding is a deservedly famous item, used by adventurers of all kinds. It is perhaps one of the most easily recognized magic items in the realms and is often the most demanded non combative enchantment any artificer is requested to make.
As such, it is little wonder why this creature exists. After all, it combines the utility of a magic item with the benefits of having a loyal companion. One that can be fairly inconspicuous and surprisingly dangerous in the right circumstances.
The few features that distinguish an awakened bag of holding from its inanimate counterpart typically come in the form of extra straps that the bag uses as arms and legs, usually sporting four to eight such appendages depending on the skill and preferences of its maker. Many also sport eye like embroideries and animalistic motifs to give them more character.
