Keen Sense. This creature has advantage on Wisdom (perception) checks that rely on smell.
Swamp Camouflage. The voltrog has advantage on Dexterity (stealth) checks made to hide in swampy terrain.
Light of the Lure. Creatures who start their turn within 30 feet of the voltrog and can see its lure must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or become charmed until the beginning of their next turn. While charmed, the creature must use its full movement to get as close to the voltrog as possible. Once a creature has been effected by this trait, it is immune to it for 24 hours.
Unless surprised, a creature can avert its eyes to avoid the saving throw at the start of its turn. If the creature does so, it can't see the voltrog until the start of its next turn, when it can avert its eyes again. If the creature looks at the voltrog in the meantime, it must immediately make the save.
Multiattack. The voltrog makes two slam attacks and one tongue whip attack.
Slam. Melee Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (2d12 + 4) bludgeoning damage.
Tongue Whip. Ranged Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, range 15 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d10 + 4) acid damage. On a hit, the creature must make a DC 14 Dexterity saving throw or become grappled. Creatures charmed by the voltrog automatically fail the save.
While grappling a creature, the tongue instead pulls the creature up to 10 feet toward the voltrog. If a creature is already within 5 feet of the voltrog and is still grappled they are at risk of the Guillotine.
Guillotine. (Only against a grappled creature) Melee Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (5d10 + 10) slashing damage. If this damage brings a creature to zero hit points, they are decapitated and instantly die.
Twitch Leap. Whenever this creature is dealt damage from an attack, it can leap up to 30 feet in any direction. This movement does not provoke opportunity attacks.
Description
The voltrog is a horrifying combination of evolutionary elements. It is capable of leaping great distances, remaining unseen in certain environments and crushing its prey at a moments notice. The few survivors who have encountered it speak of the mournful cries it made, like wheezing gasping lungs. In the mist and darkness, the lure and mask serve to impersonate a desperate traveler. Many approach to help the stranger, only to find themselves staring helplessly into a dark, wet, toothy maw.
It lacks the ability to see or hear. It's leaking gills have a keen sense of smell for which it seeks out the sweat and blood of weary journeymen. The voltrog always carries over its head a magical lure that causes victims to lose control of their bodies and approach the voltrog seemingly of their own volition. Once in range, the tongue lashes out like a frog to the fly. The acidic adhesive coating the tongue immediately begins digesting them while simultaneously preventing escape.
Tales have spread that voltrogs were created within the lab of an ancient wizard, who magically manipulated the genetic structure of several different creatures and combined them into one. Inspiration may have come from the deep sea, insects, mammals and amphibians, no one knows. However, it's predatory instinct is clearly unlike any natural being. They lack reproductive organs, so they are few in numbers. Yet, they age slower than elves, for several still roam the planet. They have avoided being completely eradicated due to their skill in picking off hunting parties one by one.
