Traits

Metal sense. The alicanto can sense metal of its type (adamant, gold, silver, or copper) within a mile.

Variable dexterity: A copper alicanto has a dexterity of 12, a silver alicanto has a dexterity of 16, a gold alicanto has a dexterity of 18, and an adamant alicanto has a dexterity of 20

Luminescence: The alicanto can cast Light on itself at will.

Displacement: The alicanto is constantly flitting back and forth causing attack rolls against it to have disadvantage. If it is hit by an attack, this trait is disrupted until the end of its next turn. This trait is also disrupted while the luminescence feature is active, the alicanto is incapacitated, or the alicanto has a speed of 0.  (Gold or Adamant only)

Avoidance: If the alicanto is subjected to an effect that allows it to make a saving throw to take only half damage, it instead takes no damage if it succeeds on the saving throw, and only half damage if it fails. (Adamant only)

Sunlight Sensitivity. The alicanto has disadvantage on attack rolls and Wisdom (Perception) checks when it, the target of its attack, or whatever it is trying to perceive is in direct sunlight.

Actions

Multiattack: The alicanto makes two claw attacks.

Claw: Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, one target. Hit: 6 (1d4 + 2) slashing damage

Compel: The alicanto picks one target of evil allignment. They must make a DC (10, 12, 14, 16) wisdom saving throw. If the target succeeds, they are immune to being compelled by the alicanto for 24 hours. They have advantage if they are fighting the alicanto. Otherwise, they are compelled (as if under the effect of the suggestion spell) to follow the alicanto into the woods. From there, the target is either lost in the woods (disadvantage on survival checks to navigate out) or led off a cliff (disadvantage on perception checks/-5 on passive perception to spot the cliff)

Description

The Alicanto is a nocturnal bird of a metallic color native to the feywild. Alicantos eat metal and take on its color. Most alicantos eat either adamant, gold, silver, or copper.  The metal in its stomach weighs it down, making it flightless.

The Alicanto has an otherworldly beauty and grace. Its wings shine with shifting metallic colors during the nighttime. It doesn't cast shadows, and has bright, metallic eyes,  making it highly valued as a pet.

Alicantos have guided many to rich mineral mines, but will send any evil or greedy creature following them off a cliff or make them lost in the wilderness.
