Psychic Horror. When seen up close, the unnatural visage of the wendigo is capable of paralyzing the mind by overwhelming it with a sense of dread. When a creature that can see the wendigo starts its turn within 15 feet of the wendigo, the creature must make a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 12 (4d6) psychic damage, or half as much on a successful save. Additionally, if the creature fails the save, it becomes frightened.
Unless surprised, the creature can choose to avert its eyes to avoid the saving throw at the start of its turn. If the creature does so, it has disadvantage on attack rolls against the wendigo until the start of its next turn. If the creature looks at the wendigo in the mean time, it must immediately make the saving throw.
Magical Contagion. When a wendigo bites a humanoid creature and deals more than 4 damage, the DM rolls a d20. On a 20, the creature becomes afflicted with the wendigo's curse and begins the process of transforming into a wendigo. An afflicted creature takes one day to show symptoms and one week to irreversibly transform into a wendigo. The process can be reversed if the afflicted creature is healed by a creature that knows Mass Cure Wounds expends a 5th level spell slot to heal them, or if they take a potion of superior healing.
Multiattack. The wendigo makes two attacks: one with its bite, and one with its rotclaws.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d6 + 3) piercing damage.
Rotclaws. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (2d6 + 3) slashing damage and 6 (1d6 + 3) necrotic damage.
