Fade: If hit with an attack Azaezeal may blend into the surroundings, becoming invisible for one minute or until he attacks.
Lost in the Stacks (Costs 1 Actions): If attacked, Azaezeal may summon a swarm of books of the shelves. This swarm has the statistics of a swarm of bats. If not in The Library the swarm appears out of thin air.
Stern Reminder (Costs 2 Actions). When reduced to half his hit points Azaezeal lashes out with a psychic attack affecting everyone within 60 feet of him. The attack does 6d10 psychic damage, and the targets are at disadvantage on all attacks for three turns. A DC 18 Cha save halves the damage and reduces the disadvantage to one round.
Description
From the waist down Azaezeal is a 30 foot long salamander with eight legs. His upper portion is mostly humanoid, with the same rubbery skin as the rest of him. His head is conical with two thin, piercing eyes in the middle and a razor blade cut of a mouth below that. His spots never change shape, but they, his eyes, and the rest of his skin change color every five minutes.
Azaezeal is outwardly the most genial of the demon lords, though not as silver tongued as his most frequent client: Graz'zt.
Lair and Lair Actions
Azaezeal rarely leaves The Library, his city sized collection of tomes, scrolls, runes and other means of recording information in the center of his own layer of The Abyss: The Mire. Some parts of the library are only ten feet high, others hundreds of feet high with dozens of mezzanines that do not always have protective railings. The Library is always active, with docents of all manner, and visitors from all over the planes. Even the odd celestial finds themselves needing to peruse his stacks. Azaezeal is aware of the location of every visitor in The Library, barring the use of a level 5 or higher spell to obfuscate them.
Lair Actions
On initiative count 15 (losing initiative ties), Azaezeal takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects; he cannot use the same effect two rounds in a row:
- He may manipulate the stacks and walls to change the field, changing 16 total squares in a round
- The Library itself seems to whisper to one target. On a failed DC 18 Cha save the target runs off into The Library in seek of some knowledge they desire. This lasts for five minutes.
Regional Effects
The Library is both maze and lure, especially for arcane casters (though they are no more vulnerable.)
- Survival checks to avoid getting lost both in The Library and within a mile of it in The Mire are automatically at disadvantage.
- Once in The Library, visitors find it difficult to want to leave. A DC 18 Wisdom save is required to leave willingly.
These fade the moment Azaezeal dies, though he and The Library return after 100 years unless a very dangerous ritual is performed.
