Mate: Should there be more than one bookworm they might mate, laying 10D8 eggs burrowed deep within a tome before the mating pair dies. These eggs will hatch within 3D10 days and must Consume something within 30 minutes or die.
Consume. The worm burrows into an object and begins to consume it. A single worm can consume an entire level 20 caster's spellbook, a single wooden handle, 10 arrows/bolts, or a single cloth or leather item/garment (shirt for example) in 10 minutes. Each additional worm consuming the same item reduces this time by 1 minute.
Hide: The Bookworm may attempt to hide, using its Camouflage ability once per turn in combat.
Jump: The Bookworm may use a reaction to jump up to 10ft away to avoid any attack that would otherwise hit it without suffering attacks of opportunity.
Description
The bane of librarians and scholars alike, the elusive Bookworm enjoys consuming paper most of all. They are originally white, but can turn a grey color after having consumed anything with ink. They are thought to have been natural beasts long ago magically altered and bred for reasons beyond any sane person's reckoning. Having spent generations eating toxic inks and dyes Bookworms have become completely immune to Poison, making them particularly difficult to eliminate or prevent, and they can lay dormant in temperatures below freezing. Major cities have been known to ban entry of anybody who has ever been near a Bookworm.
