Actions
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (2d6 + 3) slashing damage plus 3 (1d6) acid damage. If the target is a Large or smaller creature, it is grappled (escape DC 13). Until this grapple ends, the ankheg can bite only the grappled creature and has advantage on attack rolls to do so.
Acid Spray (Recharge 6). The ankheg spits acid in a line that is 30 feet long and 5 feet wide, provided that it has no creature grappled. Each creature in that line must make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw, taking 10 (3d6) acid damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
spider crab.
Especially when you take a moment to think that we are all practically commoners. (sorry if the tooltip doesn't work, not sure how to use them yet.)

It looks very cool! I should make something like that in D&D! I love this sight I have a few caricters on dnd and beyond and I plan to make many more. This sight is the best!

Closer to a roach considering it's short ranged acid attack, but yeah I see the visual resemblance.
DMs note, feel free to treat this as a beast for the purposes of conjure animals, polymorph, or circle of the moon wild shape. I can't find any mention of it being magical in nature, it's a natural beast in all but name.
My dragonborn Paladin lost an eye cuz of one of these
I have a neat story with these, my ranger character and the fighter were getting surprised by one of these and it rolled a nat 20 on the fighter, the fighter who was a rune knight used the cloud giant rune on me so I took the damage (I gave consent for this because the fighter would've died if they were hit)
I am so making an encounter with one of these and a Bullette for my campaign!
This reminds me of my good friend, Ryan

Why does it have lower AC while prone?
Hard armor plates in the front, softer back.
I think it would be cool if it could multi-attack with claws, based on the design of the Ankheg, it's a shame that the claws aren't an attack option
That is very true because the claws are dulled out and would only crush its opponents and would be very easy to dodge.
The one attack it has IS the claw attack. It does slashing damage and can grapple and bite. It says bite, but its a claw attack.
He is a cute little bean and I love him
one of players tried to do a side quest solo involving this thing despite ample warning and got one shotted
