Multiattack. The behir makes two attacks: one with its bite and one to constrict.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 22 (3d10 + 6) piercing damage.
Constrict. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 5 ft., one Large or smaller creature. Hit: 17 (2d10 + 6) bludgeoning damage plus 17 (2d10 + 6) slashing damage. The target is grappled (escape DC 16) if the behir isn't already constricting a creature, and the target is restrained until this grapple ends.
Lightning Breath (Recharge 5–6). The behir exhales a line of lightning that is 20 feet long and 5 feet wide. Each creature in that line must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw, taking 66 (12d10) lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Swallow. The behir makes one bite attack against a Medium or smaller target it is grappling. If the attack hits, the target is also swallowed, and the grapple ends. While swallowed, the target is blinded and restrained, it has total cover against attacks and other effects outside the behir, and it takes 21 (6d6) acid damage at the start of each of the behir's turns. A behir can have only one creature swallowed at a time.
If the behir takes 30 damage or more on a single turn from the swallowed creature, the behir must succeed on a DC 14 Constitution saving throw at the end of that turn or regurgitate the creature, which falls prone in a space within 10 feet of the behir. If the behir dies, a swallowed creature is no longer restrained by it and can escape from the corpse by using 15 feet of movement, exiting prone.
What do you mean
Doing it right now.
easily beat this with a level 1 bard. The behir may be kinda weak against sleep, but it's still pretty strong and pretty adorable
So we actually did a Behir battle in my 2nd campaign as a dm did not realize how bad this would be and even though they held out for a while they eventually did die to it lightning breath and multi attack ruined lives so fast along with for some reason I didn’t think it was strong enough and it had a few other monsters around but it ate those two ironically it went horribly south and they all died haven’t been the dm Again in our group since but it’s coming ming back to me soon might have it pop up as a small encounter moment for fun later on this time and just have it pass through as an optional or something
Aren’t these a CR 6 honestly they should be higher
Honestly 2 would probably almost kill them just do one and add a couple other creatures into the Frey acting as worshipers some strey elves that live near its home and have a shrine for it was an really interesting fight and the behir in my line ended up eating them and then finishing of the campaign I was running with a tpk it was a ruff fight for the group didn’t help they kept lining up for its breath attack
our level 6 party just killed one of these that had max health and legendary actions
These - will Kill you.
My Party of 5th had a near miss recently, but obeyed the Warning signs and survived. Would have been a TPK
Unless they are an overgeared/large party, one should suffice unless you want to kill them
anyone have ideas for minions these may have
Given their primitive intelligence, I wouldn't personally picture behirs as the minion-having type. I'd imagine they'd just eat whatever would-be servants they'd come across. That said, given that they tend to dwell underground, I could see other humanoids that are usually found underground, such as grimlocks, troglodytes, or kuo-toa, being cowed into the service of a behir.
Its horn looks pretty silly in 5e.
bear
If the Behir was created by storm giants, why does it speak Draconic? It has high stealth, maybe in those old days it would sneak around dragon territory to spy?
my party fought this and we killed It before it even got to do anything.
looked at it later and wondered if we were actually smart.
That’s why I’m here. Matt gave it an extra 100hp btw
2 or 3 if your party is buff and stuff
i'd say that depends on the party. if they have been showing good capability in combat i'd say two plus some goons, *maybe* three if they are really powerful. they have pretty high dpr but as far as defenses, if the party is prepared for any underdark combat at all they shouldn't have a problem killing it. no immunities other than lightning damage and a decent but not huge health pool, as long as they don't rely on lightning damage for some reason, they can probably just blast it with whatever they have. the thing doesn't even have resistance to poison, so in the underdark especially that might be something to keep in mind.
