Death Burst. When the mephit dies, it explodes in a burst of dust. Each creature within 5 feet of it must then succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or be blinded for 1 minute. A blinded creature can repeat the saving throw on each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Innate Spellcasting (1/Day). The mephit can innately cast sleep, requiring no material components. Its innate spellcasting ability is Charisma.
Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 4 (1d4 + 2) slashing damage.
Blinding Breath (Recharge 6). The mephit exhales a 15- foot cone of blinding dust. Each creature in that area must succeed on a DC 10 Dexterity saving throw or be blinded for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
DAD?
This guy is just creepy. Plain creepy.
I'm thinking of having my party find a small group of these in an abandoned Mithril mine, playing with the skulls of the long dead miners. Any thoughts?
That's great. Maybe they are playing some kind of weird sport with the remains. Creeeeepyy
It went really well if you're wondering, the party almost forgot they were hired to kill them :)
Are Dust mephits in hords or flocks. Because for my campaign i am thinking of making a hord of them go past the charcaters.

In one of my campaigns I have one of these and 5 pseudodragons attack my party: blinding, poisoning, and a possibility of unconsciousness.
All mephits are meant to be encountered in hordes.
Dust Mephit induced blindness + multiple DarkMantles, seems just about enough challenge for an early encounter?
So, I've been working on a way to make it okay for a vampire to walk around during the day. Does anybody think a mephit spreading itself over the same area the vampire is standing in would effectively shield it from the sun? And for the record, I am only counting direct sunlight. None of this sunlight bouncing off the ground garbage. Because if that counts, then moonlight would burn them too
risky. Banishment or just plain killing the mephit would leave the vampire exposed to the sun. Vampires in my world are too smart to let that happen
That depends on how many Darkmantles. I would use one or two Darkmantles that work in coordination with the Dust Mephits. That way, the players would be panicking out of their minds as they don't know how many Darkmantles there are, and they take a risk by moving even 5ft. A pretty interesting and potentially lethal combination.
Dust mephits remind me of the Sandman because they look like they're made of sand, and can cast sleep.
But all Hordes of Dust Mephits are referred to as a Bunny.
