Traits

Echolocation: The demon can't use its blindsight while deafened.

Magic Resistance: The demon has advantage on Saving Throws against Spells and other magical effects.

Actions

Multiattack. The demon makes two attacks: two with its claws, one with it's bite and one with its claws.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d8 + 3) piercing damage plus 8 (2d8) acid damage.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5ft., one target. Hit: 10 (2d6 + 4) slashing damage.

Tail Sweep. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 10ft., one target. Hit: 9 (2d6 + 3) bludgeoning damage. The target hit must make a DC 13 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.

Slather. The demon rakes its claws along its mouth, applying a thick layer of viscous acid to them. Claw attacks made with this effect deal an additional 8 (2d8) acid damage for 1 minute.

Screech. The demon lets out a painful shriek in a 60ft. sphere. Any creatures within this sphere must make a DC 12 Constitution save or be deafened for 1 minute. Creatures can repeat the saving throw at the beginning of their turn to end the effect. Creatures that cannot hear or are already deafened remain unaffected.

Description

Atuvsils are smooth, white demons that inhabit the various layers of The Nine Hells. Two large, fleshy wings sprout from their backs, allowing them to carry their thin bodies through the air with ease. These slender frames do no offer much in the way of protection, though they make up for this by moving deceptively fast: both in the air, and on the ground. Atuvsils are naturally blind, as a large plate of thick bone covers where their eyes would be. It terminates in grotesque, twisted horns that curve back and down the sides of their heads. Cutting through this plate is a horrible maw - oozing with viscous acid - that runs vertically down its head. Brood mothers are easily distinguished from their broods by the long, ridged tail that whips about behind them. Brood mothers make their homes in the abandoned cave systems of The Nine Hells. While they mostly keep to themselves, it's not uncommon for more powerful demons to call upon them to lend their brood for military purposes.

Lair and Lair Actions

An Atuvsil Brood Mother makes its lair in abandoned mountain caves, or in deep burrows along the desolate flats of The Nine Hells. These homes are often times pitch black, dry, and sweltering. A lair can contain anywhere from a brood mother and a few children, to a small army commanded by the creature.

Lair Actions

On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the brood mother takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects; the brood mother cannot use the same effect two rounds in a row:

  • A loud call echoes through-out the lair, summoning 3 (1d6) Atuvsils to occupy any unoccupied space on the battlefield.
  • An unnatural and terrifying darkness envelopes the lair, forcing creatures in the lair to make a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the start of its turn, ending the effect if successful. Additionally, all creatures within the lair are blinded unless using magical sight, and any nonmagical light or magical light created by a spell of 2nd level or lower, is snuffed out. Creatures that are already blind are not affected by this action.
  • The lair heats up to an unbearable degree, forcing creatures within the lair to make a DC 16 Constitution save or take one level of exhaustion. Creatures with immunity or resistance to fire are unaffected by this action.
