Description
An axe beak is a tall flightless bird with strong legs and a heavy, wedge-shaped beak. It has a nasty disposition and tends to attack any unfamiliar creature that wanders too close.
Usually axe beaks inhabit grasslands and prefer open spaces like plains or slightly hilly terrain where they can run and hunt freely. During hunts axe beaks take advantage of their high stature and chase after prey in long strides. After outrunning their desired prey they use their sharp beaks to thrash into their quarry, violently slashing through skin and tissue.
This axe beak is less a living creature and more an embodiment of nature itself. A loyal and fearless companion bestowed upon a travelling follower of Silvanus. As such it doesn't need to hunt or be fed and is more intelligent than the usual wild bird. It still enjoys eating and drinking but it doesn't require nourishment to survive.
