False Appearance: When the giant venus flytrap remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from a large, exotic plant.
Photosynthetic Regeneration: At the start of each of its turns, the flytrap regains 10 HP. It only gains this benefit if it is exposed to sunlight.
Multiattack. The giant venus flytrap makes two Root Grab attacks and one bite attack.
Root Grab. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 40ft, one target.. Hit: 9 (2d4+4) bludgeoning damage and the target must succeed a DC 15 STR save or become grappled.
Note that the flytrap can only grapple 4 targets at once in this way. If it attempts to grapple a 5th target, it must release one that it had previously grappled. As a free action on its turn, the flytrap can automatically deal 9 (2d4+4) damage to a grappled target.
Bite. Melee weapon attack: +7 to hit, Reach 10ft, one target. Hit: 13 (2d8+4) piercing damage plus 7 (2d6) poison damage. Swallow. If the target is Medium or smaller, it must succeed on a DC 15 DEX saving throw or be swallowed by the flytrap. A swallowed creature is blinded and restrained, it has total cover against attacks and other effects outside the flytrap, and it takes 14 (4d6) acid damage at the start of each of the flytrap’s turns. The flytrap can only swallow one creature. If a creature has already been swallowed by the flytrap, it cannot swallow another creature.
If the flytrap takes 20 damage or more on a single turn from a creature inside it, the flytrap must succeed on a DC 17 CON saving throw or regurgitate all swallowed creatures, which fall prone within 10ft of the flytrap. If the flytrap dies, a swallowed creature is no longer restrained and can escape from the corpse using 10ft of movement, exiting prone.
Charming Pheromones [Recharge 5-6]. 20ft Cone weapon attack: Each target in the cone must succeed a DC 14 WIS save or become charmed. A charmed target must move within 5ft of the venus flytrap, fall prone, and then spend its actions doing nothing. If it is already within 5ft of the flytrap, it does nothing on its turn. A charmed target may repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effects on a successful save.
Root Grab [Bonus Action]. As a bonus action, the flytrap can pull all grappled targets 15ft closer to it.
Opportunist. When a charmed target moves within 5ft of the flytrap, the flytrap may use its reaction to make a Bite attack.
Description
Deep in the thickest, most overgrown patches of jungle and forest, giant venus flytraps lurk. When motionless, they look like strange, exotic plants, but these flytraps eat more than just bugs. They regularly make prey of deer and other large game, and adventurers would be just another tasty snack.
