Amphibious The dragon can breathe air and water.
Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If the dragon fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.
Multiattack. The dragon makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with its claws.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack. +14 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 20 (2d10+8) piercing damage.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack. +14 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d6+8) slashing damage.
Tail. Melee Weapon Attack. +14 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 18 (2d8+8) bludgeoning damage.
Comforting Presence Each creature of the dragon’s choice, including the dragon itself, that is within 120 feet of the dragon and aware of it gain advantage on saving throws made to resist becoming frightened.
Cold Fire Breath (Recharge 5-6) The dragon exhales an icy fire in a 90 ft. line. Each creature in that area must make a DC 21 Dexterity saving throw, taking 9d6 fire damage and 9d6 cold damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Luck Aura Each creature of the dragon’s choice, including the dragon itself, within 90 feet of the dragon and are aware of it gain advantage on all attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws for 5 rounds. This ability only functions while the dragon is conscious.
Change Shape The dragon magically polymorphs into a humanoid or beast that has a challenge rating no higher than its own, or back into its true form. It reverts to its true form if it dies. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying is absorbed or borne by the new form (the dragon’s choice).
In a new form, the dragon retains its alignment, hit points, Hit Dice, ability to speak, proficiencies, Legendary Resistances, lair actions, and mental ability scores, as well as this action. Its statistics and capabilities are otherwise determined by the new form, except any class features or legendary actions of that form.
Detect The dragon makes a Wisdom (Perception) check.
Tail Attack The dragon makes a tail attack.
Bad Luck (Costs 2 actions). The dragon curses a target creature that it can see with exceptionally bad luck. The target must succeed on a DC 19 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the target has disadvantage on all attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws until the end of the dragon’s next turn.
Description
The rarest and most revered of all the dragons, luck dragons are friendly harbingers of fortune and success.
A luck dragon is unique among dragons in their appearance, possessing a strange mixture of scales and long, soft fur, as well as no visible wings, flying magically, like a snake swimming through the air. A luck dragon wyrmling’s scales and fur are a pure, snowy white, but as it ages, it gains golden streaks through its fur, and it begins to grow long whiskers. The snout of a luck dragon is much more canid in appearance, than it is reptilian.
Bringers of Fortune. Luck dragons are known throughout the world as good omens of fortune, success, and, well, luck. Seeing one as it flies across the sky is said to bring the observer a favorable future, and many who have spotted them claim to have grown wealthier very quickly. Indeed, many of the world’s rich and famous, are rumored to have been blessed by luck dragons, and few do anything to refute these stories.
Lifelong and Loyal Friends. A luck dragon knows that many seek them out only for the luck that they bring. However, if a member of one of the smaller races manages to befriend a luck dragon, they have made a truly loyal friend for life, that will come to their aid and help out whenever, wherever, and however they can. On rare occasions, a luck dragon may shapeshift into a humanoid and live alongside their friend in efforts to be closer to them.
Legendary Rarity. Because of their highly sought after powers, luck dragons throughout history have been hunted, enslaved, and abused by powerful members of the smaller races, and as a result, they are highly endangered. So small are their numbers that many people believe they no longer exist, and many luck dragons are happy to let them think so.
Random Hordes. Luck dragons are again unique among dragons in that they don’t actively seek out wealth and material trinkets. Despite this, however, they often end up with sizable treasure hordes anyway. Thanks to their natural luck, they will often happen across gold, valuable magical items, or other such treasures, simply as a matter of time. As a result, the treasures that are encountered in a luck dragon horde is truly random.
Lair and Lair Actions
Luck dragons live in the most remote and beautiful places in the world, and their lairs will almost certainly require flight to reach. A cavern in the side of a cliff face, or behind an immense and powerful waterfall are likely locations.
Lair Actions
On initiative count 20 (losing ties), the dragon takes a lair action to cause one of the following effect; the dragon can’t use the same effect twice in a row:
- The dragon has advanced luck, rolling a third die any time it has advantage until initiative count 20 on the next round, and taking the highest result.
- A single creature the dragon can see has advanced bad luck. Any time the target has disadvantage until initiative count 20 on the next round, it must roll a third die, and take the lowest result.
- The air within a luck dragon’s lair heats up or cools down drastically. Any creature in the dragon’s lair must make a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or take 1d6 fire or 1d6 cold damage. If they succeed, they take no damage.
Regional Effects
The region containing a legendary luck dragon’s lair is warped by the dragon’s magic, which creatures one or more of the following effects:
- Every hour or so, creatures within 5 miles of the dragon’s lair experience good luck, and find 1d10 gold pieces just lying on the ground.
- Luck permeates the very environment within 5 miles of the dragon’s lair. Crops grow faster, even with little water, sunlight, or nutrients. Wanderers frequently find areas to take shelter from the weather. Edible plants and fauna are bountiful and easier to come across in the area.
- Displays of natural beauty are frequent. Fully formed rainbows arc across the sky. Shooting stars rocket through the cosmos at night. Flowers bloom more vibrantly and smell sweeter. Rivers glitter as though they were made entirely of diamonds.
If the dragon dies, these effects end immediately.
