Traits

Bad Flier. The chicken falls at the end of a turn if it’s airborne and the only thing holding it aloft is its flying speed.

Death Burst. When the chicken dies, it explodes in a burst of magical chaos. Each creature within 5 feet of it must make a DC 10 Dexterity saving throw, taking 4 (1d8) force damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Actions

Infect (2/Day). The chicken infects another creature within 5 feet of it with its innate chaos. That creature must make a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or be infected. An infected creature is charmed by the chicken for 10 minutes. When those 10 minutes end, that creature turns (statistics, traits, equipment, and alignment all) into another bombfowl. If the original bombfowl that turned that creature into a bombfowl dies, that creature is reverted to its original form after 1d10 minutes. A bombfowl can also be reverted to its original form by being targeted with a remove curse spell or greater magic. If the original bombfowl is reverted to its original form, then the transformation of each creature it infected becomes permanent short of being targeted with remove curse or greater magic.

Beak. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 3 (1d4 + 1) piercing damage.

Description

Bombfowl are the terrifying creation of the union of a leak from Limbo into the Material Plane and the unfortunate placement of a certain chicken farm. This transformed every chicken in the farm into a bombfowl, a violently purple chicken which infects other creatures in order to turn them into more bombfowl. This is the only way that bombfowl can reproduce. Worse yet, when bombfowl are killed, usually as part of an extermination effort, they explode in a deadly burst of chaotic energy.
