Traits

Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If the dracolich fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.

Magic Resistance. The dracolich has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Actions

Multiattack. The dracolich can use its Frightful Presence. It then makes three attacks: one with its bite one with it's claws, and one with it's tail..

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +14 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 19 (2d10 + 8) piercing damage plus 1d8 necrotic damage.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +14 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d6 + 8) slashing damage plus 1d4 necrotic damage.

Tail. Melee Weapon Attack: +14 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (2d8 + 8) bludgeoning damage plus 1d6 necrotic damage.

Frightful Presence. Each creature of the dracolich's choice that is within 120 feet of the dracolich and aware of it must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature's saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the dracolich's Frightful Presence for the next 24 hours.

Shadow Breath (Recharge 4–6). The dracolich exhales dark, necrotic energy in a 60-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 18 Constitution saving throw, taking 63 (18d6) necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Reactions
Avoidance
If the dracolich is subjected to an effect that allows it to make a saving throw to only take half damage, it may use it's reaction and instead takes no damage if it succeeds on the saving throw, and only half damage if it fails.
Legendary Actions

The dracolich can take 3 legendary actions, using it's Reaction and choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The dracolich regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Detect. The dracolich makes a Wisdom (Perception) check.

Tail Attack. The dracolich makes a tail attack.

Wing Attack. The dracolich beats its tattered wings. Each creature within 20 feet of the dracolich must succeed on a DC 18 Dexterity saving throw or take 19 (3d6 + 8) bludgeoning damage and be knocked prone. The dracolich can then fly up to half its flying speed.

Mythic Actions

When the Shadow Dracolich becomes bloodied, it can begin to draw life force out of all creatures within a 60ft radius in a great inhale. As it does, all creatures within that area must pass a DC15 constitution saving throw or suffer 4d6 damage, suffering half damage on a successful save.
Each creature must then pass a DC15 strength save or be pulled up to 15 feet towards the Dracolich by the force of it's inhale.
On the next Initiative Count 20, the Dracolich gains the use of it's Breath Weapon and can immediately use it.
The breath weapon deals damage equal to the amount of HP drawn out of all creatures within the 60ft radius, or half as much on a save. Otherwise, use the rules for the Breath Weapon as written.

Lair and Lair Actions

A Shadow Dracolich's Lair

Shadow dracoliches lair deep within the Underdark, or within the halls of abandoned mines and dwarven strongholds.

With its hoard of gold and magical items well protected deep within the lair, a shadow dracolich rarely leaves it.

Throughout the lair complex, servants erect monuments to the dracolich's power, telling the grim story of its life, the enemies it has slain, and the nations it has conquered.

Lair Actions

On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the dracolich takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects; the dracolich can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row:

  • Dark shadows enter through a rift in the Material Plane, erupting from a point on the ground that the dracolich can see within 120 feet of it, creating a 20-foot-high, 10-foot-radius column of lifeforce-draining mist. Each creature in the mist's area must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw, taking 21 (6d6) necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
  • A tremor shakes the lair in a 60-foot radius around the dracolich. Each creature other than the dracolich on the ground in that area must succeed on a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or be knocked prone.
  • Necrotic shadow forms a cloud in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on a point the dracolich can see within 120 feet of it. The sphere spreads around corners, and its area is fully obscured. It lasts until initiative count 20 on the next round. Each creature that starts its turn in the cloud must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned until the end of its turn. While poisoned in this way, a creature is incapacitated.

Regional Effects

The region containing a mythic black dracolich's lair is warped by the dracolich's magic, which creates one or more of the following effects:

  • Small earthquakes are common within 6 miles of the dracolich's lair.
  • Life within a half mile of the lair must make DC8 Constitution saving throws every hour, or be tainted by necrotic energy -- causing the creature to lose 1HP from their HP max. This reduction in MaxHP resets on a long rest.
  • Fissure in the material plane appear within 1 mile of the dracolich's lair, forming temporary portals to the Shadowfell allowing creatures of shadow into the world to dwell nearby.

If the dracolich dies, these effects fade over the course of 1d10 days.
