Traits

Accelerator. The ascomoid may only move one quarter (15 ft.) of its top speed during its first turn in battle. If the ascomoid moves as far as it possibly can during this turn, it may move one half (30 ft.) of its top speed during its next turn. If the ascomoid moves as far as it possible can during this turn, it may move its top speed (60 ft.) during its next turn. The ascomoid may maintain its top speed so long as it continues to move as far as it possibly can. If the ascomoid fails to move as far as it possibly can during any one of these phases, its acceleration will reset to one quarter of its top speed.

Roller. The ascomoid may move into space occupied by creatures of Large size and smaller. When it does so, that creature must succeed on a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw or a DC 25 Strength saving throw (its choice) or be knocked prone and take 24 (4d10 + 2) bludgeoning damage. On a successful Dexterity save, the creature takes only half the damage, isn't knocked prone, and is pushed 5 feet out of the ascomoid's space into the nearest unoccupied space. On a successful Strength save, the creature takes none of the damage, isn't knocked prone, and the ascomoid is pushed 5 feet out of the creature's space into a space of the creature's choice. Additionally, on a successful Strength save, the ascomoid cannot move any further this turn, and its acceleration is reset to one quarter of its top speed. The ascomoid does not provoke opportunity attacks from creatures it has just rolled over, even if those creatures succeed on the saving throw.

Actions

Spore Spray. The ascomoid emits a stream of acidic spores in a 15-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw, taking 25 (6d6 + 4) acid damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. If a creature fails the saving throw by 5 or more, then it is blinded for 3 (1d4 + 1) rounds.

Description

Ascomoids are large, spherical puffball fungi that grow to be 10 feet in diameter. Once they reach such a size, they detach from their stalks and began rolling around the dank caverns they often are found in. Ascomoid are covered with small holes, which serve as sensory organs, allowing for the ascomoid to find and chase down prey. These holes also have the ability to exhale a stream of acidic spores, burning and blinding the ascomoid's victims. Ascomoid can only grow off of rotting flesh, so they must kill in order to spawn.
