False Appearance. The M3 has a true form resembling an amorphous professor orb. While the M3 remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from an ordinary object.
Hover. The M3 can hover with the use of its Hover ability. If the magic is dispelled, the mimic loses the ability to hover and falls, gaining the effect of the feather fall spell for itself until it stops falling.
Expert Sidekick. Refer to Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything on how to level up the M3 through the Expert class.
Bonus Proficiencies. The M3 has proficiency with light armor.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1 piercing damage plus 2 (1d4) acid damage.
Eye Rays. The M3 shoots two of the following magical eye rays at random (reroll duplicates), choosing one or two targets it can see within 60 feet of it. The DC (12) for this saving throw equals 8 + Constitution modifier + proficiency bonus.
1. Dazing Ray. The targeted creature must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be charmed until the start of the M3's next turn. While the target is charmed in this way, its speed is halved, and it has disadvantage on attack rolls.
2. Fear Ray. The targeted creature must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be frightened until the start of the M3’s next turn.
3. Frost Ray. The targeted creature must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 10 (3d6) cold damage.
4. Telekinetic Ray. If the target is a creature that is Medium or smaller, it must succeed on a DC 12 Strength saving throw or be moved up to 30 feet directly away from the M3.
If the target is an object weighing 10 pounds or less that isn’t being worn or carried, the M3 moves it up to 30 feet in any direction. The M3 can also exert fine control on objects with this ray, such as manipulating a simple tool or opening a container.
Shape-Shift. The M3 polymorphs into an object or back into its true, amorphous form. Its statistics are the same in each form. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying isn’t transformed. It reverts to its true form if it dies.
Hover (true form). While in its true form, the M3 can use its action to innately cast a permanent mage hand cantrip, requiring no components. It uses the spell only to transport itself. Its spellcasting ability is Intelligence.
Helpful. The M3 can take the Help action as a bonus action.
Description
A failed magical experiment to infuse a professor orb with a juvenile mimic and gazer created the M3 (Multipurpose Mimic Multitool). Its true form is now that of a professor orb. Upon close inspection of it, one will find eyes staring back and mouth parts swirling and gnashing about in the mostly opaque orb.
Aggressive Vermin-Eater. The M3, do to its gazer and mimic infusion, will actively hunt bugs and small animals when not engaged in other activities.
“Its usefulness is limited only to the creature in possession of it! Let it follow you around. Scout out the way ahead. Wear it like a ring. Forgot your key to open that chest, that may or may not belong to you? Use your M3! You can even pet it! OUCH!!! It bites!”
