Magic Resistance. The rift husk has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Psychic Mirror. If the hulk takes psychic damage, each creature within 10 feet of the hulk takes that damage instead; the hulk takes none of the damage. In addition, the hulk’s thoughts and location can’t be discerned by magic.
Legendary Resistance (2/Day). If the rift husk fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.
Ceaseless Expansion. The rift husk creates 1d4 + 1 crystal shardlings at a location of its choice within 30 feet. The shardlings are tiny constructs with 1 hit point.
Crystalline Replication. The rift husk targets up to 1d4 + 1 crystal shardlings within 120 feet. Each of those fragments spawns an identical fragment within the nearest unoccupied space.
Weird Diffraction. The rift husk targets up to 2d4 + 1 crystal shardlings within 120 feet. Each shardling becomes a crystal fragment of a random type.
Keening Rupture. The rift husk targets any number of crystal fragments within 120 feet. Each of those fragments explodes. Any creature within 10 feet makes a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw, taking 6d6 piercing damage on a failure and half damage on a success.
Transdimensional Relocation. The rift husk chooses an unoccupied location it can see within 30 feet and teleports to that location.
Empathic Feedback. When the rift husk takes damage from a creature it can see within 60 feet of it, it can force that creature to succeed on a DC 16 Intelligence saving throw or take 16 (3d10) psychic damage.
Reality Warp. When the rift husk is targeted by a spell or forced to make a saving throw from a magical effect from a creature it can see within 60 feet of it, it can force that creature to succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or be affected by the slow spell until the end of its next turn.
The rift husk can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The rift husk regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.
Unstable Growth. The rift husk uses Ceaseless Expansion once.
Billowing Drift. The rift husk flies up to 20 feet in any direction.
Shard Detonation. The rift husk uses Keening Rupture targeting one crystal fragment within 120 feet.
Description
An incomprehensible aberration from another plane, the rift husk managed to enter the material plane through a tear in reality created by damaged Lith instrumentation intended to capture the arcane energy naturally generated at their observatory on Mintarn. Its enormous body is covered by irregular crystalline structures that seem fused to its form. A single, unlidded eye lies at the center of a thickly armored core that floats above the ground and spawns tiny aberrations to do its bidding.
The rift husk spawns crystal shardlings, which are tiny constructs with a walking speed of 10 feet. Shardlings move slowly across the ground toward nearby creatures. Any physical or magical damage destroys a shardling. Shardlings can be grown by the rift husk into crystal fragments of various types, detailed below. Each fragment has a move speed of 30 feet, vulnerability to bludgeoning damage, and immunity to poison, psychic, and necrotic damage.
- Black Crystal Fragment (30 hit points): When the rift husk takes damage, if a black crystal fragment is within 60 feet of it, any damage dealt to the rift husk is first transferred to the black crystal fragment instead.
- Blue Crystal Fragment (15 hit points): If a blue crystal fragment touches a hostile creature, it latches on to its body, reducing its movement speed by half and dealing 2d6 psychic damage at the start of that creature's turn. If more than one blue crystal fragment latches is attached to a creature, that creature's movement speed becomes 0.
- Green Crystal Fragment (15 hit points): If a green crystal fragment is within 60 feet of the rift husk at the start of its turn and is the rift husk is missing any hit points, the green crystal fragment is destroyed, dissolving into green dust. The rift husk gains 4d4 + 4 hit points.
- Red Crystal Fragment (15 hit points): When destroyed or when it makes contact with another creature, the red crystal fragment explodes in a fiery blaze. Any creature within 10 feet must succeed on a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw or suffer 4d6 fire damage, taking half as much on a success.
