Traits

Spider Climb. The wendigo can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.

Mimicry. The wendigo can mimic animal sounds and humanoid voices it has heard. A creature that hears the sounds can tell they are imitations with a successful DC 14 Wisdom (Insight) check.

Blind Senses. The wendigo can’t use its blindsight while deafened and unable to smell.

Keen Hearing and Smell. The wendigo has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell.

Pounce. If the wendigo moves at least 20 feet straight toward a creature and then hits it with a claw attack on the same turn, that target must succeed on a DC 14 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. If the target is prone, the wendigo can make one bite attack against it as a bonus action.

Cloak of the Winter Winds. The wendigo can use the Hide action as a bonus action, even when it is only lightly obscured by falling snow or mist. Regardless of whether it succeeds or fails, once it uses this ability, it can’t use it again until it finishes a short or long rest.

Actions

Multiattack. The wendigo makes two attacks: one with its bite and one with its claws.

Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d8 + 3) slashing damage.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d8 + 3) piercing damage

Description

In nursery rhymes, wendigo are fearsome creatures that haunt the nightmares of anyone that lives on or near the mountains. Those lost and stranded on the mountains and run out of food sometimes turn to cannibalism out of desperation, devouring the flesh of their friends and travelling companions. Those who do are cursed by a malevolent spirit of unceasing hunger. Their eyes turn milky and blind, their hands turn into bloodstained claws, their flesh becomes bone-white. Thus a wendigo only vaguely resemble the original humanoid creature they used to be.

Unceasing Hunger. The wendigo is driven by an unending hunger and a twisted sorrow at the fleeting memory of the creature it used to be. They spend all hours of the day stalking any and all sources of meat wandering on their mountain. Using their unnatural ability of mimicry, they mimic lost and stranded travellers to lure in unsuspecting prey.
