False Appearance. While motionless, the zombie is indistinguishable from an inanimate corpse.

Maggot-Infested. When the zombie dies, a swarm of maggots flows out of the dead corpse and attacks. Award the characters an extra 450 XP for defeating the swarm.

Undead Fortitude. If damage reduces the zombie to 0 hit points, it must make a Constitution saving throw with a DC of 5 + the damage taken, unless the damage is radiant or from a critical hit. On a success, the zombie drops to 1 hit point instead.

Description

Undead zombies move with a jerky, uneven gait. They are clad in the moldering apparel they wore when put to rest, and carry the stench of decay.


Some zombies are in fact swarms of maggots animating corpses.

Variant Zombie Options

  • Some speedy zombies can take the Dash action as a bonus action.
  • And/or they can make two melee attacks instead of one as a Multiattack action. This may effect its CR.
