Necromantic Acid. Any creature swallowed by the ulgurstasta takes 22 (4d10) necrotic damage and 14 (4d6) acid damage at the start of the ulgurstasta’s turn. A creature killed in this way reanimates as a Spawn of Kyuss (if humanoid) or a skeleton under the ulgurstasta’s control, remaining dormant in its gut until the ulgurstasta uses its Breath Weapon action. The ulgurstasta’s gut can hold 8 Large, 32 Medium, or 128 Small or smaller foes. This ulgurstasta currently has 2 Spawn of Kyuss and 6 skeletons inside its gut. This ulgurstasta currently has 2 Spawn of Kyuss and 6 skeletons inside its gut.
Magic Resistance. The ulgurstasta has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Tendrils. An angry ulgurstasta extrudes millions of tendrils that extend 20 feet out from its body. They whirl around it in a whipping storm, rendering it immune to non-magical ranged weapon attacks (included above) and dealing 10 (3d6) slashing damage to all enemies within 20 feet of the ulgurstasta at the beginning of each of its turns.
Multiattack. The ulgurstasta makes two bite attacks or one bite and one swallow attack.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 20 ft., one target. Hit: 19 (3d8 + 6) piercing damage and is grappled (escape DC 19) if the ulgurstasta isn’t already grappling a creature, and the target is restrained until the grapple ends.
Swallow. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 0 ft., one creature the ulgurstasta is grappling. Hit: 19 (3d8 + 6) piercing damage and the creature is swallowed. A swallowed creature is blinded and restrained, has total cover against attacks and other effects outside the ulgurstasta, and is affected by the Necromantic Acid trait.
If the ulgurstasta takes 30 damage or more on a single turn from a creature inside it, the ulgurstasta must succeed on a DC 21 Constitution saving throw at the end of that turn or regurgitate all swallowed creatures, including dormant undead, which fall prone in a space within 10 feet of the ulgurstasta. If the ulgurstasta dies, a swallowed creature is no longer restrained by it and can escape from the corpse using 20 feet of movement, exiting prone.
Breath Weapon (1/day). The ulgurstasta vomits a 60 foot cone of necromantic acid. All creatures caught in the cone must make a DC 19 Dexterity saving throw or take 55 (8d10) necrotic damage and 35 (8d6) acid damage. This action also vomits forth any dormant undead stored in the ulgurstasta’s gut, as described in the Swallow attack, who can appear in any open space within the 60 foot cone and roll initiative the following round. Creatures killed by this attack reanimate as described in the Necromantic Acid trait 3 (1d6) rounds later. Until the Breath Weapon action recharges, the ulgurstasta’s Necromantic Acid trait deals no damage.
Description
The first ulgurstasta was created long, long ago by the cleric-turned-demigod Kyuss. It looks like a massive maggot, its hulking frame supported by dozens of delicate looking, multi-articulated legs. It moves surprisingly fast for a creature its size, though it isn't particularly nimble. Its head is studded with dozens of tiny, beady eyes, and it has a tremendous gaping maw lined with teeth and dripping with a foul-smelling, bright green sludge that simultaneously burns and rots anything it touches. The creature's back and sides sprout millions of holes, which makes it look something like a lotus seed pod when at rest, but when angered these holes shoot out long tendrils tipped with bone spurs quite capable of slicing through even the thickest armor.
Created as enormous siege engines, the ulgurstasta is capable of destroying entire armies single-handedly, as enemies it kills more often than not end up being transformed into horrifying undead allies. As the enemy ranks grow thinner, the ulgurstasta's forces only grow stronger. It is fortunate for all living beings that the process of creating such a horror is a long, dangerous undertaking, and may be beyond the abilities of all but the most devoted necromancer.
