Shapechanger. The mimic can use its action to polymorph into an icicle, pile of snow, or snowman, or back into its true, amorphous form. Its statistics are the same in each form. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying isn't transformed. It reverts to its true form if it dies.

Adhesive (Object Form Only). The mimic adheres to anything that touches it. A Huge or smaller creature adhered to the mimic is also grappled by it (escape DC 13). Ability checks made to escape this grapple have disadvantage.

False Appearance (Object Form Only). While the mimic remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from an ordinary icicle, pile of snow, or snowman.

Grappler. The mimic has advantage on attack rolls against any creature grappled by it.

Innate Spellcasting. The mimic's innate spellcasting ability is Constitution (spell save DC 12). The mimic can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components or concentration:

At will: frostbite

1/day each: snilloc’s snowball swarm

Actions

Pseudopod. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) bludgeoning damage. If the mimic is in object form, the target is subjected to its Adhesive trait.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) piercing damage plus 4 (1d8) acid damage.

Engulf. The mimic engulfs a Medium or smaller creature grappled by it. The engulfed target is blinded, restrained, and unable to breathe, and it must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution saving throw at the start of each of the mimic's turns or take 7 (1d8 + 3) bludgeoning damage plus 4 (1d8) cold damage. If the mimic moves, the engulfed target moves with it. The mimic can have only one creature engulfed at a time.

Description

Many discount the tales of children as mere imagination.  However, when winter comes, if children begin to tell of how they spent their day playing with a talking snowman, one should pay close attention to every detail.

Reports of experienced people wandering off and getting lost in the snow, snowmen or enormous icicles that appear overnight, or children telling of how they made friends with a moving or talking snowman are signs that a frost mimic may be in the area.

While they will prey on any Medium or smaller creature, the fondness of humanoid children for playing in the snow makes them easy prey for a frost mimic.  They lurk in snowy fields where children frolic, inspiring wonder in them as they watch a snowman "come to life".  It will spend several day entertaining its juvenile audience, playing with them, earning their trust before it begins to stalk them, one by one each day, as they adjourn to go home at the end of the day.
