Illusionary Tendrils. When the berberoka's tentacles are above water, they hold the illusion of being beautiful fey of male or female persuasion. The berberoka itself makes a mumbling sound that sounds like conversation and laughter though if a creature who can hear it listens closely they can make a DC 13 Wisdom (Investigation) check to realize that the sounds are a babbling creature instead of actual conversation. A creature moving within 10 feet of any tentacle is surprised as the illusion melts away, revealing the tentacles true nature.

When the berberoka's tentacles are submerged, they look like a school of especially big and colorful fish. The fish illusion has no sound or visual cues to dispel it until the tentacles attack or a creature tries to catch the fish.

Actions

Multiattack. The berberoka makes six attacks with its tentacles, only two attacks can be against a single target.

Tentacle. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (2d8 + 8) bludgeoning damage and the target must make a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be grappled. The target can take an action to repeat the Strength saving throw to break free. The berberoka can have no more than four medium or small targets grappled in this way or two large target.

Essence Drain. The berberoka can take an action to drain life force from each creature it has grappled. A grappled creature takes 9 (2d8) necrotic damage and the berberoka gains half the amount in Hit Points for each creature grappled in this way.

Description

Berberoka are bizarre creatures from the Feywild that also share traits with ogres and aberrations. These hideous creatures are forms of gray to green flesh that have one eye and a mass of six strong tentacles.

The strangest thing about the berberoka is that it can make its tentacles appear as beautiful humanoids (usually fey lending tot he theory that they have to be creatures the berberoka has seen or, perhaps, eaten). When these tentacles are underwater they appear to be a school of very colorful fish used to lure creatures or fisher folk into trying to catch them for a meal.

Berberoka are cruel and evil but more in a greedy, glutinous way, caring for little else but the next thing they can eat. And the fey monster is not too picky about what it eats as long as it is alive and wriggling.

Though berberoka have sharp teeth and strong jaws and will eat their prey by tearing at their flesh if need be, they much prefer draining the essence from others while they are still alive and frightened, getting much more pleasure from feeding in this way.
