Innate Spellcasting. The Abyssal Turkey's innate spellcasting ability is Wisdom (spell save DC 11, +3 to hit with spell attacks). The Abyssal Turkey can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:
At Will: Vicious Mockery
1/day: Expeditious Retreat

Multi Attack. The Abyssal Turkey makes two attacks: one with its beak and one with its talons.
Peck. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., 1 target. Hit: 5 (1d6 + 3) piercing damage.
Talons. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., 1 target. Hit: 6 (2d4 + 2) slashing damage.

Description
Even demons have something to be thankful for. Once a year, the demon lords come together and thank the other races for their tenacity and unwillingness to die so easily. Bloodshed brings the demons great joy and if the other races were wiped out, their purpose would cease.
On Thanksgiving day, portals from the Abyss open up across the planes and outpours droves of Abyssal Turkeys. They have a near insatiable hunger for flesh and don't stop until killed or the day is done, when they are summoned back into the Abyss where they sleep for 364 days until their next feast.
Legend says there is one Abyssal Turkey who has survived over a millennia of festivities and has grown quite large. It's been dubbed "Megultur "and has been stated it can swallow a small child whole, but these are just rumors of course, right?
For those brave enough to feed upon a slain Abyssal Turkey, it tastes overly salty and tough to chew with an abundance of muscle fibers.
Seems a bit more powerful than challenge rating 1/2, but it’s a pretty cool creature overall. It has a nice story to go with it and I’ll probably use it for this year’s thanksgiving one shot.
Yeah, I was toying around with upping the CR or removing an ability or two. Let me know how it goes and I'll adjust from there :D I hope the one shot goes well, I'd love to hear about it post game.
Ok so I just finished up that session. Rather than do a thanksgiving one shot I decided to incorporate it into my main campaign. And well, it gave three level 10 players a run for their money. Revivify was cast by an npc at halfway through, and the Lich PC (long story) was on death saving throws at one point. It was a really fun and frankly really stressful encounter. My one complaint would just be the challenge rating being way too low. These things downed a Lich and caused the need for revivify. Although in the end, it was a really fun time, and it did it’s job by traumatizing my players.
Glad to hear it was fun! And traumatizing :P I'm going to go back and adjust the CR then to match its difficulty. How many did you throw at the party? And which of its abilities seemed to be the most challenging? My guess is Egg; as if not dealt with right away, can soon create a hoard of them lol.
I originally threw ten at the party, and in the first round the artificer was down. The egg posed a problem for them, but it was the multi attack that caused them the most trouble.
Thanks again! I like the egg ability so I'll remove the multi attack and see if that fairs better. Still may need to bump up the CR though. We'll see! :D
