Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If Ashiok fails a saving throw, they can choose to succeed instead.
Dreamborn Muse. Ashiok does not require additional movement to move while on the Ethereal Plane.
Nightmare Weaver. Each time a creature becomes frightened or fails a Wisdom or Intelligence saving throw while on the Ethereal Plane, if Ashiok is aware of the creature's location, a manifestation of fear (use the shadow stat block) appears on the Ethereal Plane within 5 feet of that creature, taking on the form of its worst fear. Each manifestation of fear shares Ashiok's Initiative count, taking its turn immediately after them.
Innate Spellcasting (Psionics). Ashiok's spellcasting ability is Wisdom (spell save DC 20). Ashiok can cast the following spells, requiring no components:
At will: darkness, dissonant whispers, enemies abound, phantasmal force, sleep
3/day each: confusion, dream, fear, mental prison, modify memory, phantasmal killer
1/day each: imprisonment (slumber only), maddening darkness, weird
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 2 (1d4) slashing damage.
Dreamwalk. Ashiok and up to three creatures within 30 feet of them magically enter the Ethereal Plane from the Material Plane, or vice versa. An unwilling creature must succeed on a DC 20 Charisma saving throw to avoid being pulled into the other plane. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, returning to the Material Plane on a success. If a creature returns to the Material Plane in a space occupied by a solid object, the creature is shunted to the nearest space.
Planeswalk (3/Day). Ashiok casts plane shift on themself.
Sculptor of Fears (Recharge 5–6). Ashiok attempts to manifest the darkest fears of their enemies within their minds. Each creature of Ashiok's choice within 60 feet must succeed on a DC 20 Wisdom saving throw or take 18 (4d8) psychic damage and become frightened for 1 minute. A creature that succeeds on this saving throw takes half as much damage and is not frightened. A creature can repeat this saving throw at the beginning of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Ashiok can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. Ashiok regains spent legendary actions at the start of their turn.
Instill Fear. Ashiok awakens the sense of mortality in one creature they can see 60 feet. The target must succeed on a DC 20 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Fearful Presence. Ashiok selects a frightened creature within 60 feet and visible to them. That creature must succeed on a DC 20 Wisdom saving throw or take 18 (4d8) psychic damage.
Psychosomatic Attack. Ashiok selects a creature within 60 feet of them on the Ethereal Plane. Each manifestation of fear within 5 feet of that creature takes the attack action against it.
Dreamwalk (Costs 2 Actions). Ashiok uses the Dreamwalk action.
Description
Ashiok is a nightmare planeswalker of unknown gender and origin.
Ashiok has long, slender fingers with long talon-like claws for fingernails. The bottom half of their head resembles a human's, but the top half consists of two large black horns, made of a rough rocky substance, that frames the void around them. Ashiok has no upper face, no cranium, nor eyes nor nose. In their place, there is only black smoke emanating from where the mouth and upper lip ended. This black smoke whirls around their head, swirling down in a wider radius outside the body.

Posted Sep 3, 2022This is really cool. I'd change some of the overlapping Frightened effects though and replace one of them with Confusion. I had this guy take damage from positivity. So, Bardic Inspiration and a Bards Performance damage him.
