Description

The A'Ōlelo Maikaʻi is a creation of the god Ridgelend, god of the forge; spirit of both the stream of Ridgeland and the Ridgeland rapier.  It was created for one porpous to guard the rapier until the one worthy to wield it comes to pull it. The monster resembles a giant flaming centipede, having 3 X-shaped holes in its segments. These are called pulcers, a successful DC 15 Dexterity (acrobatics) or strength (athletics) with a grappling hook or hookshot to cling on to one(the check must be repeated at the start of each round stayed here, while here a creature is unable to be harmed by the A'Ōlelo Maikaʻi, and all attacks done here are critical hits. Once the monster drops to 0 hit points it does not die, or do death saving throws. It will congratulate the creatures having beaten it, giving them it's blessing. It will then manifest in the ridgeland rapier with his creator ridgelend. This monster is of mud own classification ,gaurdian, meaning a living construct of the gods put into place to protect an artifact, however if you wish to use 5e DnD terms, this monster is a monstrosity.

Multiple Curiosities: The A'Ōlelo Maikaʻi has been traced underground for time immemorial. It longs for the open air of the surface and will ask creatures about the surface even while fighting.

Avatar of ridgelend: The A'Ōlelo Maikaʻi is the spirit of a past avatar of ridgelend. It wishes above all else to join its master in the rapier. The name this avatar was Donamibe, a 12th level human fighter, Nutreal in alignment. The monster has little memory of this life however creatures with knowledge of this avatar  may be able to escape without a fight by informing him.

Lair and Lair Actions

In the center of this lair is a pedestal underneath a willow tree. This pedestal is guarded by a wall of fire. Surrounding this tree is a moat of blue fire, this fire does no damage to a creature the comes into contact with it. The top of the layer is covered in rail like structures that the A'Ōlelo Maikaʻi climbs about to move. The lair is hexogenal in shape, 550x550 ft, and the walls resemble Giant's causeway in Northern Ireland. The tops of these hexagonal pieces are red with heat. The A'Ōlelo Maikaʻi rests colt on the rails above the willow tree.

A'Ōlelo Maikaʻia may take these lair actions to cause one of the following effects; the [monster name] can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row:

  • Fire from the sky: The A'Ōlelo Maikaʻi may kick the sides of its layer to cause burning hot rocks to fall from the hexagonal puzzle pieces that make up its layer, a creature in the layer must succeed on a DC 15 dexterity saving trow, or take 4d6 burning damage, or half as much on a success. The A'Ōlelo Maikaʻi may only do this twice a day.
  • Smoke Screen: The A'Ōlelo Maikaʻi may take two actions to cast a smoke screen around it's layer. All creatures in the layer have disadvantage on checks based on sight. All objects in the layer become heavily obscured and bright light becomes dim. theA'Ōlelo Maikaʻi is unaffected by all of this and has advantage on attack rolls in the smoke.
  • Regional Effects

The region containing a legendary A'Ōlelo Maikaʻi’s lair is under the affect of the burning heat it causes, which creates one or more of the following effects:

  • All areas in a 20 mile radius of the lair have a temperature of 110 degrees farinhite. It is impossible for rain to fall, and for plats to grow. As such spells like goodberry no longer function.  All checks to find food and water are made with disadvantage.
  • Volcanic rocks: every dawn spent within a 50 mile vicinity on the monster's layer have a 75% chance of having volcanic rocks fall upon them. If such an event triggers creatures in the region must make a DC 12 Strength saving throw, or take  3d4 bludgeon  damage.

If the A'Ōlelo Maikaʻi dies, these effects fade over the course of 3d4 days.
